About Me

Hi I'm Struan :) I'm 24 and I grew up in the Highlands, in the North of Scotland, but I've been living in Spain since September. I graduated from Cambridge University two years ago and spent one year saving for a motorbike trip to Spain. I came here on a 1997 Honda CB500 motorbike, without a plan but hoping to learn Spanish and spend the winter in the sun :)

I have been working in Granada for 3 months now in a hostel, and teaching English to pequeños niños Granaidinos.

Now I'm driving the long way home! I want to drive along the beautiful coast of Portugal and the Pyrenées de Nord in Spain, and then up the West Coast of France. These are wonderful roads that I have never driven on.

If you have space I would love to hear your stories and share experiences, cook a (vegetarian) meal for us if you would like, and maybe we can even go for a short drive ;) (I have a spare helmet with me).

It would also be a great help to me if you could host me. Thanks!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I am on couchsurfing to meet people!

I don't have time or money to stay for long anywhere in the cities of Portugal, Northern Spain and Western France so if I'm going to meet anyone I want to meet you open-minded and friendly couchsurfing hosts.

Maybe we can exchange stories and ideas, cook food for each other, enjoy music together, play cards, or even become instant lifelong friends - you never know ;)

Interests

I like camping, travelling and seeing nature. I like to exercise, eat healthy food and take care of my body. I love music and dancing. I love reading books.

Music, Movies, and Books

Favourite Book - Hitchhiker's Guide to The Galazy series

At the moment I love sci-fi novels - Isaac Asimov and Kurt Vonnegut. I've also been fascinated by books about psychotherapy case-studies recently and I enjoy Haruki Murakami's novels

Favourite Music - Funk, Soul and Reggae (e.g. James Brown, Roy Ayers, Gregory Isaacs)

Recently I have loved these songs :)

Mas Que Nada - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dDlVZNfxVtE
La Bamba - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kqcIVntQIzc
Stanyan Street - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A6W51K6NKAk

Movies - David Lynch, Quentin Tarantino, Alfred Hitchcock, and many other types of movie, whatever's good ;)

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Vipassana meditation! A 10 day silent meditation retreat with 12 hours a day sitting and focusing on the breath, no other activities allowed. A mentally challenging thing to do but everyone I've met who has done it loves it, including me. If you're interested I'd love to have a go at explaining why.

Teach, Learn, Share

We can share stories and experiences and swap perspectives on life. We could also share some beers and have a laugh if that's your thing, or we can learn from each other ideas on what makes a meaningful life. Let's see! :)

What I Can Share with Hosts

I can cook dinner for us.
I will bring a few beers.
