About Me

ABOUT ME

I lived in Japan for 5.5 years, and moved back to Canada in 2010. I hosted lots of people in Osaka, a few people in Tokyo, and have plans to start hosting again here in Vancouver, but right now, my place is a little bit too small to do so.

Canadian born, currently living in Japan, seeing the sights, doing what people do, learning stuff about culture. I get clarity when I am doing something that requires concentration. For example, when I ride my bike at high speeds through traffic, my mind relaxes. The same thing happens when I ski too.

Speaking of epiphanies, I learned recently that friends are much more important than contacts and that one should never treat one's friends like contacts. I might have made that mistake in the past but I try to keep my friends as real friends. Keeping it real or something.

I went to santacon in a wheelchair. It was easier to get people to sit on my lap, but I got a bit sick of being pushed around.

PHILOSOPHY

Strength, Balance and Flexibility in mind, body and soul. Working on it. See the world, it is your best teacher.

Recently, I have been thinking about how we develop our identity. Having weaned myself from excessive use of the internet, I may have decided that creating our personal identity through the internet lacks necessary human contact. I'd like to start a gang. The fraternal concepts of gang membership help humanize the process of identity expression/creation. As long as you are who you are and not only a member of something greater. A gang would make life much more vivid. Members would definitely not be called gangsters.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

CS2 and CS is essentially the same as it was before for the general user. People stay at my house, I steal their passports and suggest that they go to the Chinese mafia for help. This turns out to be a trap, because the mafia ends up using them as cheap labourers and they pay me a sum for my troubles. Nothing has really changed, but I should say thank-you to all the people who work hard to keep the site running; without your effort, we would never have as many cheap illegal foreign labourers as we do today.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I hosted couchsurfers in Osaka for several months, until I moved on to greener pastures. By green, I mean grey and by pastures, I mean featureless urban concretescape. This may be the first time you have seen the word concretescape.

Since then, I moved from Tokyo to Vancouver, and am enjoying the green life here. Organic yogurt is the same price as the normal stuff in some supermarkets! Amazing.

Interests

everything, especially Art (painting, drawing, photography, digital, video), Architecture, Hiking, Camping, Travelling, People and beer.

Recently, I have been interested in marketing. Marketers are busy selling the concept of Christmas in Japan. It is the same concept that they force-fed us in Canada after the meaning of Christmas was stolen by Coca-cola Claus and Hallmark. Damn dirty marketers.

I like making fun of hippies even though I voted green and agree with a lot of their philosophy.

I like contradictions.

I enjoy thinking about difficult concepts when people are talking to me so that I end up not listening to what they are saying and they end up getting upset and bent out of shape about my lack of listening skills. This is just what my mind does unless I am really interested.

Music, Movies, and Books

Vonnegut, Orwell, Wolfe, Murakami.

I believe that movies can be taken seriously but being that television is at the low end of Brow's Scale, it should not be taken seriously and should not be given much thought. Television should either be funny or informative. Drama belongs in movies, books and on the stage.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I went to Everest Base Camp.
I worked in a host club. (and I will not tell you how to get a job there.)

Teach, Learn, Share

I am an ignorant selfish pig! There is nothing I don't already know, so I can't learn anything from anyone.

or read this for some interesting insight. then ignore it.
