I live in rural New York. I am a Quaker. I volunteer with the Alternatives to Violence Project in state prisons. I love to read, to be read to and to read to others. I find growing older to be an adventure. I am separated from my wife and live alone. I am interested in the difference between solitude and loneliness. Solitude is possible because I love people and enjoy being with them. I spend several hours most mornings writing and reading.

I am fond of Chopin's Nocturnes and John Fogarty; Leonard Cohen, Tom Waits, John Fahey, George Winston, Keith Jarrett. I have loved books by Tolstoy, Dostoyevsky, Patrick O'Brian, Rumi, I am now reading Heroditus' Histories because we're going to Greece.
