About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To help form a new sustainable paradigm for humanity.

ABOUT ME

I am an eclectic person. I have a 'Buddhist' outlook on life, but am not really a Buddhist. I am a deeply spiritual being, but not particularly religious. I respect the subtle forces behind the world (the ones that our science denies and avoids) but I am also a very worldly person and not 'tripped out'.

My passion has been for many years to help turn around the environmental mess that humans, in their short-sighted self-absorption, have created on the planet and to help spread a new paradigm by which humanity might live in balance with the ecosphere of the planet (Gaia) and thus survive without the major environmental problems that seem on the horizon.

I am told I look a lot like Woodie Allen (if you know his movies). I have a very sarcastic sense of humor and I tell a lot of puns once you get to know me.

I am sensitive, intelligent and a good communicator. But I get frustrated easily in certain situations (like having to wait when I have not idea how long the wait is for).

PHILOSOPHY

The 'law of karma' is real and so doing what is 'right' is its own reward both in the near term and long term. Refining your sense of 'what is right' is thus the challenge of life. Thus also kindness, compassion, and contrition (being able to admit mistakes to yourself and others) make you a bigger person, make your heart and wisdom grow.

Attention is the magic stuff of life. What you choose to pay attention to becomes real for you. The ability to choose to pay attention, and not be led around by advertising tricks and social convention, must be cultivated or we will all end up as sheep.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I am new at the CS project. I used to travel with the 'hostle' system, but this project seems more suitable since having a local friend where you travel is a much better idea than just a bed to sleep in.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

None formally, but we have put lots of folks up at our house in the past, and I've stayed with others as well in many parts of the world... just not formally through the CS website.

Interests

The environment, meditation and 'enlightenment', permaculture, deep understanding of things.

Music, Movies, and Books

Movies: ET (all time favorite), Wall-E (latest favorite), sci-fi adventure genre. I avoid gratuitous gore and violence. Why fill my consciousness with that?

Music: 'Light' jazz is my favorite, some classical music, some popular music... but melodic, rhthmic and mellow (easy on the ears) makes for the best music for me. Live music is almost always better than 'canned' music.

Books: Lately I am reading titles on sustainability. Favorite book from my youth was Charlotte's Web.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I have been exceptionally telepathic at times in my life, being able to 'hear' and 'project' thought forms. But this is not something I have learned to control, it is just a gift that sometimes comes when I am in a good place.

Teach, Learn, Share

I have a very broad knowledge complemented by a strong sense of what is important. I have a hard time with 'small talk' and am often shy at first.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I am very knowledgeable about climate, I cook pretty well, and I have lots of stories to tell about my travels and my work these past few years.

Countries I’ve Visited

Azerbaijan, Cambodia, Canada, Cayman Islands, Chile, China, Denmark, France, Germany, Greece, Indonesia, Israel, Jamaica, Japan, Mexico, Monaco, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Peru, Poland, Puerto Rico, Spain, Sweden, United Kingdom

Countries I’ve Lived In

Thailand, United States
