About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To Travel the World..to Explore...to experience different cultures ...meet new people....learn

ABOUT ME

I am a Texan female who sees each day as a new chance to learn...I love to experience new cultures...meet new people...you can learn something from everyone you meet...I am a school teacher....I love seeing the light bulb turn on when a students learns something...and I love the holidays teacher have...more opportunity to travel...:-) I have spent time teaching school in the jungles of Belize..doing archaeology in Kenya...a fulbright in Japan....traveled to Wales, Scotland, Ireland and London, Australia.... seen Mexico and Canada...and most of the contiguous 48 states in the USA....but there is still so much more of the world to explore...I am a divorced mother of a grown daughter...was brought up in rural East Texas....went to college in Wisconsin and returned to Texas where it was nice and warm...

PHILOSOPHY

as a teacher...I want to teach my students to ask questions and then give them the tools so that they know how to find the answers to their questions..and in a way I guess that is how I am with the world...you should always be learning asking questions...exploring...I think you can learn something from everyone...as they have experiences you have not had...so if you are patient and take the time...you will learn.....

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

since Hurricane Ike...I have extra people living in my home so don't really always have a couch available..but would love to show anyone around that comes to this area...and as soon as repairs are finished around here will have a couch available...also would love to meet new people and borrow a couch when I travel to new places....

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I have when traveling out of the country...met people online that showed me around their towns...or gave me advice on what to see and where to go...I think you can get the most out of a travel experience when you are able to relate to the local people from the area...then you get the full experience...and I think this offers that...I always try to eat in local places... to get to know the people.....

Interests

I love to travel...I surf...like to go hiking and exploring...canoeing and kayaking...I love to look through museums ....art galleries...especially of aboriginal type arts....I love to do aboriginal crafts...from all continents...I am an avid collector of body art...I love to experience Life

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I have seen the Northern lights in all their glory....
I have been on top of a mountain in Masai Mara and watched the wilde beast in migration....thinking it must have been like this at one time for the Native Americans and buffalo....I have sat on the top of a cliff in the boundary waters...looking over the lakes...just enjoying the beauty...nature....I attended a fire fly festival in japan...was amazing...with mt. fugi as a backdrop...no words to describe....I have learned to make tortillas from a Mayan woman in Belize...how to grind the corn and cook it to perfection....learned how to make a fire from 2 sticks from a Moran of the Samburu in Kenya...I have walked around Uluru....I have seen the aftermath of a hurricane...and been amazed at everyone working together to rebuild..... I have felted my own shoes.....helped to build a shelter from sticks...made a Caddoan hut...by weaving grasses...so many things...so little time to tell of them....

Teach, Learn, Share

I know the history of this area...where to go and take great photographs.... I am also very familiar with Native Americans...from my archaeology days...as well as aboriginal crafts and skills...I do a lot of teaching on energy for teachers and students...so am good with that...I know a lot about the native wild life and plants...how to live off the land...what plants and animals you can eat and how to best prepare them....I know the best places to get tattooed and the artist who should do it
