Overview
About Me
“About Me” section: 28, originally from Gambia 🇬🇲, living in Sal Rei. I work mornings at Câmara Municipal and evenings at a hotel, so guests have lots of privacy. On my days off I love showing people Deserto de Viana and live morna music.
many travelers are curious about West African culture and music 🎶.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
To meet locals, exchange perspectives, and travel slower and more meaningfully. Hostels are fine, but a shared kitchen table beats any guidebook. I’m here for cultural exchange, not just a free couch.
Interests
like simple things done well—finding a local bakery, learning a few phrases, and swapping playlists. I’m drawn to creative scenes (murals, small gigs), nature (coastal trails, viewpoints), and everyday culture (what people actually cook on a weekday).
Music, Movies, and Books
Music: Cesária Évora, Mayra Andrade, Burna Boy, Khruangbin, Bon Iver, João Gilberto; always up for local recommendations. • Books: “The Alchemist” (Paulo Coelho), “Homegoing” (Yaa Gyasi), travel essays; open to borrowing whatever you’re reading. • Movies/Shows: “The Secret Life of Walter Mitty,” “Amélie,” Studio Ghibli; documentaries about food and cities
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Watched sunrise from the cliffs at Ponta de São Lourenço (Madeira) after a night hike—windy, salty air, and the whole ocean turning gold. Or: joined a batuko circle in Praia and tried to keep rhythm (spoiler: the aunties were way better).
Teach, Learn, Share
Teach: Basic Portuguese/Crioulo phrases, beginner photography (phone or camera), simple cooking from Cape Verde or your home country, and a few productivity tricks for study/work. • Learn: Your favorite local dish, a song from your city, a craft or skill you love, and the history behind a neighborhood. • Share: Good conversation, respectful vibes, help with groceries/dishes, and travel stories (plus photos if you’re curious).
What I Can Share with Hosts
Want me to tailor this to your actual background (job, hometown, must-have house rules)? Tell me a few specifics and I’ll tighten the wording so it sounds exactly like you.
