Hello! My name is Summer, and I am a sophomore at the University of Pennsylvania studying Criminology and Psychology. This summer, I will be volunteering at an orphanage in Eastern Cape, South Africa. After that, I will be doing a study abroad at the University of Cape Town :) My classes end on November 16, so I am hoping to travel to Europe afterwards. I am a first-generation, low-income college student, meaning my parents didn't go to college - so this opportunity means the world to me.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

To put it simply, I'm a broke college student with a heart for exploration. I want to be able to explore the world, even though my budget is yelling no!

Interests

I am a double major in psychology and criminology. I was on my school's swing dance team for a hot sec and I love to cook (although I am very much still learning). I also really enjoy hiking, especially in Tennessee.

Music, Movies, and Books

I am currently really into Leon Bridges, Kacey Musgraves, Dawes, Dr. Dog, the Black Keys, etc. My favorite movie would probably have to be the Matrix, and I just read "Just Mercy" by Bryan Stevenson and LOVED it.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

One amazing thing that I've done...hmm... I worked for the Government of Belfast for a few weeks! That was so fun, and I loved getting to know the people who worked there.

Teach, Learn, Share

Teach - I can teach you how to knit! I just picked it up and am obsessed with it.

Learn - I would love to learn how to actually dance. 80% of the time when I dance I resemble a wet noodle -- this must change.

Share - I want to share stories about my experience in South Africa. This will be my first adventure after my study abroad!
