About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Simply put, my mission is to become a more loving person

ABOUT ME

I am 58 years old, 5' 10" tall, 155 pounds. I consider myself to be easy going. I enjoy listening to and telling stories. I like music. I like young people and dogs, and cats too I guess. I can be funny and I can be serious. I learned to fly helicopters in the U.S. Army.I am father to 3 children. My wife Lucy and I are no longer married, but she lives here with me on the property, and we are still close friends. I personally delivered 2 of my 3 children. All 3 were homeschooled.

PHILOSOPHY

I think that life is a gift, and we are expected to enjoy it as best we can. What we do is not so important, more to the point is who we are, how we act and feel. I think my purpose in this life is to learn to love. To unconditionally accept other people and situations. To allow life to unfold, without struggle or strife. It's hard to do, but it seems right to me.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I would like to help, but I'm not sure yet what I can do. I am not very skilled at the computer.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I have walked and hitchiked a bit and often have been offered a place to stay at night. Years ago I toured the USA on a BMW motorcycle and spent many nights with other BMW owners. That was alot of fun meeting other riders and telling our stories.

Interests

I am interested in funk music, electric vehicles, home made goat yogurt, alternative building methods, permaculture, adventure trips, metal art, guitar, spirituality, social justice, welding, hangliding, simple lifestyle, bluegrass music, Iraq, hospice, making new friends, acapella singing, Viet Nam, pacifism, living in the now, good food, and fixing things.

Music, Movies, and Books

I like the movies Harold and Maude and American Beauty. I like funk music the best. James Brown etc. My favorite and most influential books have been Mans Search for Meaning, The Power of Now, The Four Agreements, Working On Yourself Won't Work, The Book, Siddhartha, and Conversations With God.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

In 1986 my wife and I took our 6 year old and 2 year old sons and with 600 other people, we went on a peace march from California to Washington D C. We walked 15 to 20 miles each day. It took 11 months to complete.

Teach, Learn, Share

I do handy man stuff, and I have a working knowledge of carpentry, electrical, plumbing, and auto mechanics. And I like to fix things, while at the same time attempting to maintaining an unattached attitude. What I like learning about is simple living, alternative building methods, energy efficient housing, and spirituality.
