About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Enjoy life :)

ABOUT ME

Well, I have spent the last few years enjoying myself, travelling a bit, going to France to work ski seasons, and basically having a brilliant time. However, it is now time to embark on a new type of adventure. I have recently moved to Denmark with my boyfriend, who I met in the Alps. At the end of August 2008 I am starting on a new college course in graphic design, which is a very new direction for me, but one that I am very excited about all the same.

I like to think that I am quite a friendly person, I enjoy socialising with existing friends and making new friends. I try not to let things get to me, although sometimes that is just easier said than done. I'm an enthusiastic person who likes to do things right and who enjoys trying new things.

PHILOSOPHY

I believe in living life in the present. I hate the thought of letting life slip away while you work hard to secure a "decent" future.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I stayed on a few couches while I was away on my rtw trip, all of them were people I'd met previously during my travels rather than through couchsurfing, as unfortunately that was before I discovered cs. I really liked when I got to hang out with the locals, it felt like i was getting a lot more out of being there. Since then though, I met up with a lovely girl called Maya while I was in Cape Town, but didn't stay with her, and also had a fantastic night out in Newquay with the cornwall couchsurfing group.

Interests

I LOVE travelling, obviously! I also enjoy trying new things, going to new places, meeting new people, basically just expanding my horizons. I'm really into snowboarding and skiing, and during the summer I've tried to make up for the lack of snow by surfing, but it's just not the same and I struggle to get enthusiastic about it sometimes. I've had a couple of goes at wakeboarding, which is much more like it, but unfortunately I can't afford to do it as a regular hobbie. At least not right now. I love listening to music, as well as playing the piano (although only for myself, never infront of an audience) I like cooking for friends or family, and barbeques are just about my favourite thing in the world - but don't leave me in charge cos I'll burn everything to a crisp!

Music, Movies, and Books

Current music faves are the kooks, manu chau, muse, arctic monkeys, counting crows, kings of leon... the list goes on and on! generally speaking i have a pretty varied taste, anything that brings back good memories, makes me want to get up and dance or lie back, relax and listen!

Books - i'll read pretty much anything, although I prefer books that you can learn something from. In my opinion a good book will be more than just entertainment, it should help you to see things from someone elses point of view or to open your eyes to something new... and most importantly I don't like to be able to predict what's coming.

Movies - Umm, this one's not so easy. I like films and watch a lot of them, but I rarely gain as much satisfaction from a film as I can from a book. I suppose I prefer films that are based on true stories or that are inspiring. I don't like horror or overly violent movies, and I'm not keen on silly, pointless, predictable movies, although there are a few definite exceptions to that rule.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Can I have more than one? I climbed table mountain in cape town, that was a pretty cool thing to do. It was hard work but there was a massive sense of achievement when we got to the top. And, of course the views were fantastic! I also walked the routeburn track in New Zealand, that was amazing, being in such a beautiful place and not being surrounded by hundreds of tourists.

Teach, Learn, Share

I think the key thing I learned while I was away is that learning acceptance will make you a much happier person. You can fret and worry about something all you want, be it a bus running late or your accomoation not being quite what you were hoping for. But a lot of the time it's not going to get you anywhere and the only person who's actually going to be bothered about it is you. As soon as you accept that things aren't quite as perfect as you may want them to be, you can get over it and start looking for that silver lining. :-)
