About Me

ABOUT ME

I am a risk-taker trying to avoid the beaten track and trying to find my own destiny by taking an active role in creating and shaping it. I do not believe in coincidences.

PHILOSOPHY

"... love life, engage in it, give it all you've got. Love it with a passion, because life truly does give back, many times over, what you put into it." (Maya Angelou)

"Ainoa asia, mitä tässä maailmassa voi hallita, on omat ajatukset." (The only thing you may be able to control in this world is your own thoughts.)

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Music, Movies, and Books

Books:
hard question as there are too many good ones-
eg. Eugene O'neill: Desire Under the Elms,
Raymond Carver's short stories, Arthur Miller's Crucible, Toni Morrison: The Bluest Eyes, Bernard Malamud: The Magic Barrel, Vonnegut: Slaughterhouse 5, Ishiguro: A Plain View of Hills, Burgess: Clockwork Orange, Synge: Playboy of the Western World (really funny), Chaucer: Canterbury Tales, poems: Auden: The Shield of Achilles, Eliot: A Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock, Coleridge: The Rime of the Ancient Mariner, William Carlos Williams: This Is Just To Say, Robert Frost- The Road Not Taken - now you can see that I was a student of English and American literature and linguistics:)

Music:
Devotchka, Nick Cave, classical music, especially music with piano (I am planning to play the piano when I am retired).

film I enjoyed the most: Until the End of the World (by Wim Wenders)

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Having been to Transylvania in Gyimesbükk.
Having seen places which must be the most wonderful parts in the world.
Being in the hospital when my sister's baby was born.
Having met elderly people still shining inside.
Having met people whom I could admire and learn from.
Having been able to speak with foreigners using their mother tongue.

And still to come:):
Want to see the nordic lights.
