About Me

Striving for simplicity, precision. That being said, as far as my understanding of myself goes..... I have not quite found the string that will tie together all the fragments. Yet! So - excuse my super elaborate and messy profile. Precise or not, it's all true!

Grew up in the forest of Northern Denmark. Last summer I graduated high school and was granted a scholarship to study at Beijing Normal University, which I did for half a year. Spent a few months living with my grandparents, emptying their book shelves. Missed my flight back to Asia, and went instead to Germany, where I lived in a community for a few months. Few days back home before going hiking a month in Yukon, Northern Canada. Leaving Vancouver after two short weeks to see a hero of mine on a book tour in Portland. Last month and a half in Oregon, partly in the city of Portland, partly on a small countryside farm near Salem. Fell in love with CS-events and picnic'ing Parisian style in guess which city? ;) Now leading my life with no planning what so ever, which has meant the most amazing week traveling the capital of my own country. What! It seems to all come down to the people I surround myself with and not pressuring myself with long to-do lists. Events are just brilliant, and for the rest I will seek out the most wonderful adventures when going out without intentions. Writing, drawing, dancing, interacting with those around me, whether through speech or shared smiles.

FRAGMENTATIONAL OBSERVATIONS

I have filled out so many journals that my hand writing is now quite attractive

Stuck in between loving the taste of coffee and beer and disliking the effects

I enjoy music as well as the absence of it. Balance is key, eh! :)

If I were to pick a travel buddy, it would be my DAD

I collect four leaf clovers from the places I visit

I lift my feet from the bicycle's pedals when going downhill (and shriek when no one's listening)

Follow my heart/ intuition for good and for bad

Calmed down by spending time in nature

How would you describe yourself in four adjectives? NOT EASY. For now going with Curious, bright, idealistic (definition: unrealistically aiming for perfection. Not aiming for keeping this a constant) , uncertain

Not religious, but think there is a lot of value to be collected within the religious institutions (fx rituals and social)

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Since starting traveling, my eyes has been opened to the friendliness present in the world. With this whole Couchsurfing-community I cannot understand I could ever be in doubt.

When in Rome, do as the Romans do! What better way of getting into the pace of life of a place than through Couchsurfing? How do you brew their coffee, what do you listen to while doing the dishes, what is "home" for you?

To quote Einstein: "Any fool can know. The point is to understand." Dialogue - discussion, getting to ask questions - builds the bridge from one to the other for me.

Interests

Studying. Phycology, economics (combine the two = behavioral economicsll teach you this important phrase)!

Drawing. Started sketching memorable places I visit.

Music, Movies, and Books

MUSIC
French! Whether Edith Piaf, Stromae, instrumental cafe music, Kaolin, Maitre Gims, the Amélie soundtracks. If you know anything, please let me in!
Nostalgic tracks: Disney soundtracks (piano versions), themes from a computer game I played for many years.
"Vienna" has been the soundtrack of my travels, and I now plan to visit.
Melancholic classical music. Erik Satie, Chopin.
Songs with lyrics in languages I don't understand.
"Wear Sunscreen" simply for the message of the lyrics.

BOOKS
Philosophical works.
Sophie's World by Jostein Gaarder got me hooked four years ago.

The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini (book-wormy friend recommended to me as her favorite book. Later found it is also a favorite of my grandmother's!)

Camous, Milan Kundera, Haruki Murakami, Alain de Botton, H. C. Andes

MOVIES
I don't watch many movies. Preferably documentaries.
I like price-winning movies "with a message." The Boy in the Striped Pajamas, Boyhood, Forest Gump. Disney Pixar: Monster's Inc, Madagascar. Anastasia (soundtrack alone<3), Fight Club (another amazing soundtrack. Try the Maxence Cyrin piano version: Where Is My Mind), Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Juno.

Absurdly dark humor I have yet to find outside of Denmark, found in De Grønne Slagtere. Den Eneste Ene is a favorite.

TV series
Breaking Bad. Lost - first two seasons anyway.
Matador, Arvingerne. Have bit kept up with Danish crime series despite their international success!

The YouTube-channel The School of Life is gold. Kurzgesagt too.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Gave my hair away to children suffering from hair loss due to medical procedures.

Teach, Learn, Share

LEARN

I am currently especially interested in gaining more knowledge within these fields: Classical music
Architecture
Drawing (recently started places I visit as a way of remembering)
Psychology
Basic Spanish, maybe French
Opening a bottle without a bottle opener, and a can without a can opener

TEACH

I can teach you how to make an amazing bread very simply

Podcasts for the still unenlightened of their wonders!

SHARE
Some super cool words I feel are lacking in the world of English speakers: Some Danish (my mother tongue), some German, some Mandarin Chinese. OK, I realize you will need to teach them to those around you to put it to use, but it WILL be worth it! ;-) And let me return some of the fruits of your language!

Culture exchange, duh! (The people's thoughts on national-) Politics, raising kids, work ethic, social system, national pride, perception of time, stereotypes, what makes a home, holiday celebrations, grocery shopping.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I'd love to do some physical activity together. A morning run together, evening dancing, stretching before bed.

The licorice root tea I bring with me. It is not the salty/ ammonia licorice flavor you would expect from a Dane, I promise!

Baking bread has been a winner in this North-America of no-crust, made-of-air store bought toast bread. See picture in my photos!

Dishes! I actually like doing dishes! Especially if accompanied by either good discussion or melancholically listening to Erik Satie's Gymnopedie no. 1.

A hug!
