About Me

Hi y’all. Well, as you already know, I’m a guy, 35 and living in the Middle East (of the Netherlands though.) Last year I was elected for city council, so i guess that makes me a politician. I represent both the Labours and the Greens and fight my ass off for people and nature. My main job is working for massive (international) sport events and when my agenda allows me, I work for big film and documentary festivals.

So is it all about work? Nah. My intention is to go on holidays every month. And so far I succeeded this year. Amsterdam is my big love but Prague is a great mistress, and because of my awesome group of friends out there, I call it my second home.

I’m a tat hyperactive. My humor is bizar and my directness can come over as brutal. But hey, that’s me. If you don’t love yourself, how the hell are you going to love somebody else. Can I hear an amen?

If you hate cats, I hate you! And so do my cats!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

It’s 11 years ago already. I started, without any travel experience, a backpack tour around Europe. I went up through Scandinavia, went down via the Baltics and the Balkans and everything in between to Turkey. And after Greece and Italy I was robbed from all my stuff in the city of Marseille and went home. I mostly stayed in tents and hostels but met great people during CS events.

Later on I organized and joined several small and big Couchsurfing events, extravaganzas and camps. I just love being surrounded by international people, I guess.

Music, Movies, and Books

Netflix is my best friend and no, I’m not ashamed about it. I watch anything, even if I don’t especially like it. Series and some docs. I barely have the concentration or time for a full film.

I do love Road Movies though. As in: From Dust till Dawn, Easy Rider, Into the Wild, The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert, Familia Rodante, etc. Further I adore Lars von Trier (Breaking the Waves, Dancer in the Dark, The Idiots) and Xavier Dolan.

Music is tough. I’m not an artist or band person, for me it’s just a wide variety of random songs I connect with. And if I like you, you can ask for my funeral playlist with all of them.

Books: I love the weird and nostalgic style of Dostojevski, Murakami, Eduardo Mendoza and Arto Paasilinna.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

This would be the ideal moment for a Your Mom joke.. However: When I was chilling in a hostel in Edinburgh, Scotland, randomly browsing the nets, I found out about a tiny wee island in the Firth of Forth, called Isle of May. Since it was a national nature reserve with tens of thousands of birds, there was only One daily boat to the island. The next morning I took a long bus ride from Edinburgh to the petite harbour of Anstruther, only to find out the boat was cancelled because of the immense wind. How could I have not noticed that it was bloody storming. Anyway, the reception lady and I, the only customer, did an intense stare down, she nearly made me cry, and at the end she had a solution. A group of Japanese scientists had to be transported to the island by a RIB. All the seats were taken, but if i just sat on the railing and hold me tight, I would make it just fine. As soon as we reached the island, the rain stopped, and when I tried to get rid of my panic attack, laying in the grass, hundreds of puffins jumped from a high rock above me, flying over me, into the water to catch fish for their babes. ,
