About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Threefold: 1) Not getting hurt, 2) Eating more vegetables and 3) Having Jon Stewart's baby

ABOUT ME

I love sparkling jewelry. Also, please note that the 'Neutral' references are a system error dating back to the Infamous CouchSurfing Website Crash of '06 (see CS FAQ for known bug issues, this one is at the top). Read the references and you'll see they're positive!

PHILOSOPHY

Mmmm... all kinds of corny crap like "live your life to the fullest" and "what goes around comes around." I think travelling when you're young shapes the way you act as a person for the rest of your life. It's also a good way of running away from student loans and 'real' life! I'm a tofu-loving vegetarian recycler.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I am a pioneer, have been a couchsurfer for 10 years! I tell friends and strangers about couchsurfing, and now that I am in a new city, will try to meet people by going to meetings. I can't host but I can certainly help the network grow.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I have hosted quite a few people at "L'auberge Roberge." When I moved to Berlin I got a room in a flat for free for a month! In Lithuania I had a guy lend me his apartment while he went away on vacation, he just gave me the keys and let me stay there for 2 weeks. And in Israel, well... I got so much more than I originally bargained for, in a good way.

Interests

Filling up water bottles, getting my stuff stolen, watching hockey at 1am because of the time difference with Canada, cheering German teams on, planning trips that never take place because I have no money. And films, French novels, current affairs and Coronation Street.

Music, Movies, and Books

Movies: YES! I'm not a movie snob, I'll watch anything, as long as someone recommends it I'll give it a try. I like Korean films in particular, not sure why.
Music: Anything I can sing along to or that does not involve a man with a guitar; elektro, French rap.
Books: Anything history-related - behind this pretty face lies a real nerd.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

One time I spent 7 days in my flat without leaving it ONCE to write 3 term papers (and almost lost my mind in the process!) No, seriously, trusting a young man in Tunis to take me to his family's house and subsequently spending the next few days travelling around the country to visit his relatives was the best travel experience I've had so far. This totally went against common wisdom but I'm glad I did it!

Teach, Learn, Share

1) If you can, get them to write that you're an ARTS student on your ISIC card, even if you're doing psych or Poli Sci or Economics. In Europe, you can generally get into museums for free if you tell them you study art or art history.
2) Don't wait for special occasions to wear the 'nice' clothes, jewelry or perfume or use the 'nice' dishes... Every day is a special occasion.
3) If you're couchsurfing in Israel, make sure you have a list of the people you stayed with, their full names, their address and phone numbers. Security people at Ben-Gurion don't know about couchsurfing, and they don't like the concept, not one bit...
