About Me

CURRENT MISSION

I never want to regret anything I have done!

ABOUT ME

Hi all! I am Thessa from the Netherlands, and after three years, I know Couchsurfing quite well. I haven't participated in some time because of my moving to my own house and being busy in my job, but travelling and stories still long and so I decided to participate again...

After I graduated from university, I have been travelling for a longer period to South East Asia and Australia, and since then I have been hooked to travelling. Unfortunately, I cannot travel longer then a holiday of a few weeks now, but am saving up for a longer period away in the future!

I like surfing, travelling, photography and meeting new people. And I like a good party too! Furthermore, I am very interested in the subject of psychology and sustainability. I like to have good discussions with people with another view to the world. Everytime I go travelling, I go at least to a spot (only not when it's skiing holiday with colleagues) where I can catch a wave.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Offering my couch to people in Amsterdam and from time to time couchsurfing/camping myself when travelling!

I do not offer my couch so much as I did as first (when I had a shared house). I just enrolled again one day at maybe and got 27 requests...

I can't combine that with a fulltime job and being a host and being more then a bed offering service. I don't enjoy couchsurfing when I am becoming a hostel, I want to share at least a little experience, be even it short.

So I will try to reply to you all, but only if you write to me on personal level and if you'll be OK with being alone in the day when I work. Weekends are OK though!

I have two little kittens, so if you are allergic, please let me know.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Until now, I have had some wonderful experiences with Couchsurfing! In Italy, staying in Rome, dancing along the Tiber in summer, in Amsterdam, hosting a lot of people and sharing stories and experiences, staying over in London, going on and off in the south of France from one couch to another...Also Italy close to Florence getting a pizza making training from Marco and his piaziollo and getting a fresh olive oil from the garden!

And hopefully in the future even more to come... Sharing different views is what I loved the most. From people twice my age as people almost half my age having different views on life, politics and love...

I love couchsurfing to the bone, I start telling everybody spontaneously about it... I think that is the best marketing possible! And sometimes I just have to say no because I have to work and sleep... but that doesn't change my view on the CS experience!

Interests

Psychology, international company cultures, cultures in general, sustainability, the role of emotions in economy (as I try to tell that not all banking people are bad! Some people try to help out...), Neuro Linguistic Programming, running, motivation in general, languages, surfing, photographing (and learning to how to turn it into nice digital forms... I've thnds of digital pictures, made my selection and want to make digital albums. Don't get round to it round to it though... Have to break a leg or so

Music, Movies, and Books

Pfew, there's a question.

Music: I have a very broad taste; going from very cheesy French rock 80's and 90's music (from my time in Paris), USA pop rock, to Dutch party music and unknown Mallorcan spanish music when I used to work in animation in Spain)... Plainly everything will do, but what I would wake up to, when I had my brother living the room next to me, will not do... Death metal, nearly death metal, or just music so sad you don't want to listen to it anymore...

Furthermore, all festival music which will make an atmosphere, whether it will be hiphop, techno, some DJ, dubstep, I love festivals in summer and the people whom I'm with. And no, I do not take any extra happy experiences, so if you want to as my guest you are fine, but don't come just for that.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

• Bicycling on the Champs Elysees and nearly being arrested for it (before the white bike plan became popular in Paris)
• Take the slow boat on the Mekong River in Laos and having nothing but a bucket as a toilet
• Going to Whiteheaven Beach in Australia, which has about 300 sunshine days in a year, and us being in the rain
• Being woken up in Java and everywhere in Indonesia except Bali, at 4AM because of the Mosque (and my next holiday will be in Morocco, so even more to come...)
• Going around (on bicycle of course) in my own town Amsterdam without a goal, because I was not in a hurry and showing around CS-ers from various nationalities
• Working in animation in Mallorca, singing and dancing to the most horrible songs, and having people applaud for that (I cannot sing)
• Going to New York two months after 09/11 and being in a virtually empty plane
• Dancing to the most lame songs and enjoying it in the Woolshed in Cairns, Oz
• Snorkelling in Koh Tao and the Great Barrier Reef and enjoying the silence of the underwater world
• Virtually every travel I make I discover something new!

Teach, Learn, Share
