ABOUT ME

My name is Jacob Showalter. I go by both Jake and Jacob. I love learning. Right now I am a Junior at Towson University in Baltimore, Maryland in the United States. I recently have gone back to school after a little hiatus. For the past two years I have been bartending at a local Resort right on the Chesapeake Bay. Home of the Maryland Blue Crab. Bartending is one of my passions, I love making and trying new alcoholic beverages and different beers as well as meeting new people. With every new person you meet, you expand your knowledge that much more. I am currently a Officer Canidate for the United States Marine Corp. I do not go in until I graduate college in the Spring of 2010, so before I serve my country I would like to see as much of the world as possible.

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I just signed up for the CS2 project. I am traveling to Ireland in January 2009. My friend Joe Welsh introduced me to CS and am hoping this will be a useful resource both on my Ireland trip and future adventures.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Awesome! I have had nothing but the best to say about CS. Everyone I have met has been friendly and helpful. CS is so much more than a place to stay. It is a way of finding, meeting new people. Surfing allows you to experience the way of life in different cultures.

Interests

I have a wide range of interests. I would rather go for a hike through the Appalachian Mountians than sit around my apartment. I enjoy being outside, I am an avid participater in sports. I play and coach a men's football team as well as playing basketball, tennis, golf etc. I also enjoy history, architecture, strategy and other mind challenging subjects. I believe in the beauty of nature and the importance of discovering it. Another interest of mine is mixoilogy. I enjoy learning, tasting, talking about different alcohol and process for making the brand unique. I am a person who wants to learn about the world around him.

The World is Flat, Art of War

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I have seen many unique and amazing things in my 23 years. Things from the Northern Lights reflecting of the polar caps to the Leaning Tower of Piza. Italy, especially Venice is a beautiful and unique experience. I can't wait to go back. The statue of David in Florence was incrediable. Studying the culture in Italy was a great learning experience. Going to see Yankee Stadium a week before it closed was my most recent memoriable trip. That stadium is a Cathedral to baseball. It was awesome. I am anxious to see much much more.
