About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To have fun, be happy, make wonderful friends, and help people along in their journeys!

ABOUT ME

I try to be positive and find happiness within. I love traveling, finding adventure, being spontaneous, smiling at strangers, riding my bike around town, drinking coffee, practicing yoga, and doing something small that I think will brighten someone's day. I like to try new things and try not to worry about tomorrow. Good friends, interesting conversation, home-cooked food, and connections with new people make me happy. I love to be silly and laugh until everything hurts. I prefer to make things for people than to buy. My favorite season is autumn. I like oak trees and I love flowers. I like complicated things- music, books, people, ideas... My friends say I'm very open and honest. I'm a deep thinker. I love to talk about all sorts of things and am up for new experiences. I love music, dancing, and being outdoors. I am American, but lived in Taiwan for four years and have now decided to call Krakow home. I'm a teacher by trade, but more often than not, my students teach me!Check out this video I made!http://youtu.be/eMQ-8Dm0T2Y

PHILOSOPHY

To help take care of fellow humans, to live life passionately and sincerely, and to have fun!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I participate by hosting, surfing, meeting, and attending gatherings. Some of my family is from a small town in northern California in which the Pacific Coast Trail runs through. People in this town have been opening their doors to hikers for decades, offering hot showers and warm meals. I think this is one of the most beautiful things in life. CS is my way of doing this.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I've had nothing but positive experiences. Whether hosting or meeting people for drinks, bike rides, or bonfires, it's all been great!

Interests

Music is a big part of my life. And of course I love traveling!! Other interests include laughing, exploring, movies, yoga, socialism (of the Swedish variety), camping, volunteer work, pondering existentialism, cheese, baking, talking, napping, knitting, people watching, reading, drinks, learning, and any social activity that's out of the ordinary.

Music, Movies, and Books

Favorite book: Shantaram by Gregory David Roberts
Also: anything by Haruki Murakami, Kurt Vonnegut, Tom Robbins, Charles Bukowski
I like to read biographies and autobiographies as well as novels about life and relationships.

My music interest is varied. I mostly listen to Indie Rock and Electro-Pop (saw Arcade Fire, Portishead, Elbow, Mumford & Sons, Beirut, and Primal Scream at Benicassim last summer!!), but am also into classic country (Johnny Cash, Hank Sr.), old school hip hop (Tribe Called Quest, Common), hardcore (Fugazi), jazz (Ella Fitzgerald and so many more!), and bluegrass. I've seen live operas and listened to live symphonies, both are amazing.

Movies: Donnie Darko, I Heart Huckabees, anything by Christopher Guest or Wes Anderson, Secretary, the list could go on and on. I love comedies (but hate Will Ferrell) and dramas. I'm too much of a scaredy-cat to watch horror movies.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I've held a hyena.

Teach, Learn, Share

Teach: How to bake amazing peanut butter cookies.
Learn: More about astronomy. Finding peace within. How to properly cook and de-bone fish. This could go on and on....
