About Me

I am a friendly and positive person who cares about social justice. I am self-employed, having started two businesses, Snake and Snake Productions (designing and printing t-shirts and some cards) which I have done for 40 years. 12 years ago I started Pathway to English. Most of my students are Korean children. I enjoy learning about languages and meeting people from other cultures. I live with my spouse, Vance, and we hope to host some couch surfers too.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

It is a beautiful thing when people reach out to know people of other cultures, and do it freely. I get tired of the world of greed and consumerism. I love to travel, but can't afford to pay a lot for lodging, so couchsurfing is a wonderful solution! I went to Europe with my spouse and adult son for two weeks in 2016 and we had a few couchsurfing nights that were very special. I went to Poland in 2019 to teach English with Angloville.com, which was a really fun experience. Also stayed with some lovely couchsurf hosts in Switzerland for a few nights. I'm looking forward to a trip to Greece in May.

Interests

I like cooking vegetarian dishes from different countries, such as Indian, Chinese, and Italian. I like swing dancing and some folk dancing. I follow political news, always hoping progressive leaders may help make the world a more peaceful place with less pollution and violence. I like photography, and enjoy helping my students make little books of their writing.
I also like making short videos for youtube.

Music, Movies, and Books

My main favorite genre is jazz. I like the variety I get on Pandora. I listen to Brazilian music, Hawaiian, some 80’s bands, and the a capella group Pentatonix. I like sci fi and am a Star Trek fan but never cared for Star Wars. I like watching independent documentaries from around the world. Books? Loved all of Harry Potter and also liked Hunger games and Lightning Thief series by Rick Riordan.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I camped near (but not too near) a volcano in Costa Rica, and got to see it erupt. A large bang woke us up and we could hear the rocks crashing down the mountainside, see the orange lava in the black of night and smell the smoke. Later I drew my pastel “Lava Lizards” which became one of my best t-shirt designs.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can give tips on some ways to learn English using online resources. I am interested in learning many topics and can chat about nearly anything. I like taking a walk together around the neighborhood.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I can help anyone improve their English. I like to cook and always clean my dishes. I like chatting about all kinds of stuff. I like children, so if you have some I will enjoy meeting them. I like playing some guessing games like charades and Pictionary (where you draw a picture quickly for someone to guess what words you are thinking of).

Countries I’ve Visited

Bahamas, Canada, Colombia, Costa Rica, England, France, Germany, Honduras, Italy, Mexico, Nicaragua, Poland, Switzerland
