About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Have fun, make the most of life, be creative, smile until my cheeks hurt, travel the world.

ABOUT ME

If you were to ask my best friends about me, they would most likely say that I am optimistic and happy person who loves traveling and seeing new things. They would probably say that I have a good personality and am good natured and polite. They might also say that I love laughing and telling the kind of jokes that are so terrible that they are funny by default.

PHILOSOPHY

Always make the most of the opportunities you're given, try to do everything and go everywhere, and hope that somehow the money will work itself out.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I, Susan, I am an Irish girl, who smiles a lot and enjoys the warmth of the sun on her face, due to many years in the cloudy Hibernian climate. I am of average size and height, and thus have made up for this by cultivating a wacky personality and a very silly sense of humour.

Interests

There are several things I love in life, I love learning languages and discovering new cultures, I love the sea and sailing, and am a sailing instructor in the summer months, I love reading, cinema and art, especially when I can enjoy these things with friends! I like adventure sports, like rock climbing, surfing, wake-boarding and snow sports and love the outdoors, especially in the summer months! I also enjoy writing, and have recently started to write articles. I also enjoy singing, and have sang in many choirs and can read music, and am in the process of forming a band, called the Unbearables, with two fellow couch surfers. I also have a passion for food, and love learning new recipes and skills.

Music, Movies, and Books

I LOVE music, all types, expect for the most part, the genre known as country. I love concerts and gigs and festivals and sing alongs and singing in the shower...

I LOVE cinema too, especially films that try to convey a deeper message or try to make me aware of political ideas or global situations, which I have never explored before. I also like vibrant and colourful films, and am and willing to forgive a poor plot, if the visual experience appropriately richly hued. I do not however, enjoy scary films.

I really enjoy reading. I have too many favourite books to list, but to give you an idea of what I like, I have just finished reading Slaughter House Five, I tend to stay away from books with pink covers, though I do also advocate the phrase, 'don't judge a book by it's cover', please forgive me this hypocrisy.

I am also a shameless cult follower of The Mighty Boosh and Noel Fielding in general. Don't judge me too harshly!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I was once crossing the English Channel on a yacht, at a young age, perhaps 10 years old, and we got caught in a night-time storm, with force 9 gales and huge waves the size of cottages, and the boat turned over and the tip of the mast came crashing down into the black and swirling seas, before the weight of the keel stabilized the boat once more, and it popped upright again! This left me completely awestruck and incredibly aware of the power of nature.
