ABOUT US

I live with Art, my partner of 5 years. He's a big outdoorsman, works at REI and introduced me to backpacking which he's been doing most of his life. I recently introduced him to whitewater rafting, my lifelong passion. My friends would probably describe me as adventurous, upbeat, compassionate, and smart. I like being me and strive to live my life authentically. I see myself as a free spirit and have, for much of it, forged a life somewhat off the beaten path, including in my satisfying and challenging work, before retirement, as a midwife. Politics intrigue me and I'm somewhat of a news and commentary junkie. Politically, I'm very progressive. A wicked sense of humor and not taking ourselves too seriously is much appreciated.

I am fiercely proud of my two 20-something daughters who are whip-smart, independent, outspoken and courageous. I like to think they're chips off the old block. My sweetheart, Art encourages me to be more mindful and disconnect from my devices. He has a hard job.

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

My partner Art and I have been hosting for a couple of years here and on Warm Showers (for traveling cyclists) and love meeting all sorts of travelers. When we're available we love sharing Portland with curious visitors. We have a nice basement suite for surfers with a queen bed and a twin bed plus a bathroom. We love to learn about our visitors and to host people who are curious about us, too. We hope it's OK to ask you questions about your life and travels and hope you'll do the same.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

After my 25 year old daughter just finished a 3 month road trip with 3 friends in which they couchsurfed across the country she RAVED about it. Knowing me well, she encouraged me to open up my house and let the frivolity ensue! We haven't couchsurfed yet but have been invited to let our guest host us if we find ourselves in Germany or Egypt or other parts of the U.S.

I love cooking, drinking wine, playing Scrabble and Cribbage. I am passionate about swing dancing and live music in Portland, exploring Portland and taking advantage of everything the Pacific Northwest has to offer. I have an organic vegetable garden that I am happy to share. I've seen much of the world, know the importance of respecting it and it's inhabitance and cannot get enough.

I need to move or use my body every day and have for my entire adult life. Hiking and riding my road bike are activities that I love. In my 20's I lived in Hawaii then moved to the mountains to ski every day. Travel and extended time spent in other places nurtures my curiosity and love of learning. I've traveled to SE Asia, Europe, Nicaragua and Mexico. It took far too long but I finally have a loving community of friends, who along with family, meet for home cooked meals weekly and occasionally travel together.
