About Me

I work at Northeastern University东北大学 as a lecturer of English, and have lived here since 2012. I've done quite a bit of traveling within China and south east Asia.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I'm here to meet people and hopefully share interests

Interests

reading, and movies, fantasy, action, romance, you name it; knitting and other crafts, art, singing, ukulele, language/linguistics, history, China, politics, activism, hiking, shopping, juggling, and object manipulation (although I am sadly out of practice, for lack of people to play with)

Music, Movies, and Books

Books: Harry Potter, Ender's Game, The Solitaire Mystery, anything by Anne McCaffrey, Terry Pratchet
Movies: The Princess Bride, Jurassic park, Pulp Fiction, The Sound of Music, Star Wars, LOTR

I am a life long lover of both the Beatles and Queen as well as other classic rock. I love 80s pop, and am delighted that apparently now 90s music is a 'genre'. I love Regina Spektor, and my current favorite band is Jukebox the Ghost, although I unabashedly enjoy girly pop music (thanks China)

I spent a lot of time when I was growing up singing choral music (secular and religious) and playing in orchestras and wind ensembles (french horn), so I'm quite familiar with and enjoy listening to classical music, although you'll probably catch me singing along if I know it well enough, or even if I don't.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

One of the more exotic things I've done was spin fire naked at burning man.

I can juggle, and moved across the country to California to live with a community of object manipulators when I finished college.

I then moved to China to work as a teacher and to create more travel opportunities for myself. I've been here since 2012.

What I Can Share with Hosts

A bed, my apartment, probably breakfast, knowledge of all sorts of fun secrets for people new to, or visiting Shenyang. I know good local dongbei food and plenty of standard Chinese restaurants around me, as well as most (if not all) the good local foreign places to eat. I can point you in the direction of good shopping, interesting tourist attractions (Shenyang does have them) and nice places to just hang out.

Countries I’ve Visited

Cambodia, China, England, France, Germany, Italy, Philippines, South Korea, Thailand, United Kingdom, United States, Wales

Countries I’ve Lived In

China, United States
