Overview
About Me
This profile is for me and my family, dad Neil, mom Suzan, daughter Sasha (born 2004) and son Victor (born 2006).
I am Dutch and arrived with a backpack 20 years ago in South Africa and got "stuck"! Neil is a true Capetonian which makes our kids world citizens.
Mid 2019 we moved to Waterford, Ireland. Neil and myself work from home in our tiny cottage on the banks of the river Suir. We love learning about new cultures and meeting new people, we hope you will join us for supper and maybe you can cook something for us!
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
We have hosted many couch surfers in the past in our spacious South African home. We hope it will now be our turn to benefit as we moved to Ireland in a tiny house.
We were fortunate enough to live in a magnificent big house in a lovely touristy area, with a big spare room to accommodate travellers, friends, family and those who simply need a break. We are very used to having others in our household and we have been told it is easy to slot in!
We hope to travel more with our kids in the near future but for now we bring the world to our dinner table if possible.

Music, Movies, and Books
As I create this profile for my family, its a bit difficult! but here goes:
Neil enjoys comedy.
Suzan loves French and art house movies.
Sasha loves her fantasy books and clan of the cavebear.
Victor enjoys anime.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
As a family, we have been traveling through Europe, including skiing which was amazing. We love going to festivals and our favorite was Afrika Burn but now is the Learning Clan Festival.
Sasha and Suzan have been backpacking through The Philippines in 2015 and Neil and Victor made a trip to Peru in 2017. From July 2019 we have permanently relocated to Waterford, Ireland.
We also fix houses and even the teens know how to handle power tools, can paint and tile as well as cook. We are an open minded family and we are not raising a boy and a girl, but two amazing (and very different) humans.
Teach, Learn, Share
We speak Dutch and English, and have a budding linguist in the house.
We love playing games, trying new food (well, most of us, we have one picky eater but thats not your problem he can survive on apples just fine), showing you our amazing Irish finds, recommending things to do in the area and learning about your home and travel experiences.
What I Can Share with Hosts
In South Africa, we used to have:
We have a guest room with double bed, you have your own balcony space, we can clean your laundry, share dinners, if it works out we can give you a lift to town or train station (but we highly recommend you come with your own transport), you will share a bathroom with the kids (sorry for the mess) and the house is big with plenty room to hang out and relax. Our area is very safe to stay, but may need a little organising for easy transport.
In Waterford, Ireland, I can introduce you to a vibrant Expat community who meets twice a week and more often! In the near future we hope to create more space to welcome visitors again.
