About Me

ABOUT ME

I've spent the last several years as a community organizer in central and eastern Montana, working on projects from the local, like starting school gardens and getting solar panels on public buildings to the national like changing federal food policy to create space for local food systems. I also work with ranchers whose property and ways of life are threatened by coal development. And I love it. I grew up in a farming community, so it's an important thing for me to help protect. I also believe in and advocate for public art. I enjoy riding bikes, finding new craft beers, and shaving infrequently.

I have a pretty-developed handlebar mustache.

I tend to like people who like Tom Waits.

PHILOSOPHY

Live, learn, have fun, seek justice, don't take things too seriously.

Music, Movies, and Books

I'm not too picky.

When it comes to music, I'm a pretty big fan of things that are folksy or bluegrass. I also like selective indie music (think Beirut) and selective hip-hop (think Lyrics Born or Jurassic 5).

As for the written word, I really like H.P. Lovecraft and am getting increasingly into Wendell Berry. I like Judith Butler and Richard Brautigan too. I like books on globalization, community living, and gender theory.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Explored the Heidelberg Project in Detroit. Check it out.

Teach, Learn, Share

I make a mean Norwegian lemon cake, a fine apple pie, and know a good dance for staving off hypothermia.
