About Me

CURRENT MISSION

"Many people die with their music still in them. Why is this so? Too often it is because they are always getting ready to live. Before they know it, time runs out."

ABOUT ME

My Name is Sarah and i'm new to the world of couchsurfing. From what i've seen so far, this is an amazing community! I have just began my career as a teacher by moving from my hometown of Hamilton, Ontario all the way the other side of the country. I live in Coal Harbour British Columbia and am loving every minute of it! I am 23 years old, have a great head on my shoulders and I believe the sky is the limits to what goals I set for myself. I have an amazing family and support system, which is one of the reasons why I am able to undertake such incredible adventures all by myself! I have met some incredible people so far in BC and am looking forward to creating a strong social network!

PHILOSOPHY

I live by the philosophy that "the only disability in life is a bad attitude." Through my life experiences I have realized that life is only as great as you make it out to be, and it is exactly your attitude that will dictate how much happiness you have. In even the worst situation, there are always lessons to be learned, positive outcomes and things to look forward too! I believe that if you can make a difference in the lives of others, than theres something worth smiling about. Life is too short to be sweating the small stuff and that actions speak much louder than words :)

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I have lots to offer the couchsurfing community! I am really fun to talk to and never have a shortage of things to say. I am really into history (specifically social history) and love to learn new things. I love the outdoors and have the philosophy "try everything once." I am really into cooking, and can make some mean sushi when I have all of the ingredients. I love to read and am always up for suggestions for new books to add to my collection! Overall, I am a good friend, a great listener and would love to help out other couchsurfers in any way possible :)

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I am new here and do not have any experiences- YET!

Interests

I am interested in trying new things and putting myself out there! I love horseback riding, fishing, hiking, reading, cooking etc. I am very outgoing and want to gain new experiences here on the island.

Music, Movies, and Books

My favourite movie of all time is called "The Music Within." It was not a box office movie, but it is incredible. Based on the true story of a man named Richard Pimentel, the movie is a biography of his life and the challeneges he faced as a man with a hearing impairment. I don't want to give the story away, but if you are looking for an incredible movie- its worth purchasing, I promise you wont be dissapointed.

My favourite book of all time is Anne of Green Gables. Being the history nerd that I am, I developed a passion for the work of Lucy Maud Montomery and her challenges as a female author at the turn of the 20th century. The social history and the underlying themes in her novels are the reasons why I find myself reading them over and over again. Its a classic Canadian book that everyone should read at least once. (it is one of the only canadian books that made the list of top 10 books of all time)

As for music, I like a little bit of everything. It all depends on my mood. I am always open for new independent artists and love supporting local musicians.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

One of the most amazing things i've done is work at a summer camp for children with learning disabilities. Through this experience, I fell in love for working with kids and making a difference through children. Its incredible to watch a child with low self esteem change their attitude and self concept from "I can't do this," "i'll never be able to reach the top" to "watch me" "Theres nothing I can not do". Its empowering to see children accomplish goals, and I learned more from them than I can even put in words.

Teach, Learn, Share

I am a great listener, I can teach others to look for the best in everyone and how to have a positive attitude. I can make a mean omlette, and as previously mentioned SUSHI! I am a pretty good cook and I can teach horseback riding (if I find a horse somewhere on the north island)

Ironically, I am a teacher, and am up for the challenge of mastering and teaching anything!
