Music, Movies, and Books

I hate questions like this because my tastes are so eclectic. With regard to film, all I require is a good script and interesting characters. For example I love 12 Angry Men and Abigail's Party, both mainly take place in just one room. But I also like older classics such as Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid; most Hitchcock; and Carol Read; comedy: most Laurel and Hardy; science fiction: Alien; Total Recall; Star Wars (70s version); and a wide variety of others of which thise spring to mind: Deliverance; Resevoir Dogs; Withnail and I; and most of Woody Allen's work from Annie Hall onwards.

Perhaps more interesting is what I dislike: Lord of the Rings (book was better); Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels (all style, no substance); Alien 4 (Winona Ryder turned out to be a robot, exactly what happened in the first (far superior) film. Have they no imagination?); the exorcist (not scary, cardboard characters and the first 30 minutes are completely irrelevant). I could go on...

Music: I love acoustic world music especially African blues, i.e. Toumani Diabate and Ali Farka Toure. Also electronica and the chilled out stuff you find on Buddha Bar albums; and Ben Christophers, Radio Head, Anthony and the Johnsons...

Generally I don't like rap (at least not in English) or hip hop

Authors I particularly like: Graham Green, Ernest Hemingway, the war stories of HE Bates
