About Me
My name is Sydney and I am currently living in Hamilton, ON Canada studying Gerontology and Communications at McMaster University. I am originally from a little area called Utopia which is where I draw my country roots from. I am a christian women who strives to live a life that glorifies my wonderful God in addition to living an adventurous life that is filled with laughter, jokes and exploring.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
Growing up I never really knew my heritage as I have lived in Canada my whole life so that is what I identified with. About a year ago I asked my parents to truly trace back and tell me what my roots are so I could learn a little bit more about my family and even myself. I learned that aside from being Canadian ( which I am very proud of!)I am English, German, French, Irish & Scottish. The feeling of exploring my background resonated in my heart from that moment on I have been determine to visit, explore and experience those places and cultures. Ultimately, I have the desire to live a life full of adventure but sometimes being on a student budget can set some boundaries for me. I found this website through a blog and thought it would be an amazing experience to fully immerse myself in the culture while meeting great people and saving money (woot woot).
Interests
1. Music - I have such a passion for music. I own a record player with about 12 vinyl records that range from indie to rock to even indie rock. I volunteer at a Radio Station as well, it have been the perfect way to find new bands and submerge myself in good music. I also love going out and watching live music. Concerts are great but what I love even more is walking into a pub or a small venue that has a band playing and feeling alive because you can just feel the passion in the room.
2. Exploring/traveling - I absolutely love exploring- I could be perfectly content with spending hours exploring shops down a small street or going out for a hike up grassy hills. Ultimately, I just want to see. I love exploring and finding hidden gems that are so full of culture.
3. Nature - this goes with exploring but I love being in the outdoors. I live in the country which means I've been surrounded by forests, creeks and lots of land most of my life. To me nature is as simple as it is going to get, it is so pure and soothing and sometimes its just what I need when I am stressed or need to make a big decision.
4. Meeting new people/ Volunteering - I have spent a lot of my life volunteering in a range of environments. This sounds so cliche but I love helping others in any way that I can. Not only is it an opportunity to serve God but I often meet some of the most interesting people I've ever met in my life. I am a chatterbox but I also love just listening to people talk about their lives and what makes them the human being they are.
5. I love artsy things (tattoos (I have two), paintings, antiques, galleries/museums)
6. I am a list-maker - if you already haven't discovered already, I enjoy making lists. I use to-do lists to get things done. The list I am most proud of is my bucket list. I have a range of things I want to conquer which I have made some progress already (I rode an exotic animal ( elephant), got a tattoo, bought a star, bought a record player) but I still have a long way to go.
7. I love animals - I have a dog named Sadie & I am hoping to have lots of animals when I settle down. I have a weakness for baby animals, in fact my social media is 95% videos of adorable baby animals.
8. Trying new things - I love trying new things. I started learning Archery about a year ago and I competed in my first tournament this past summer. I love trying new foods, finding new drinks, trying new hobbies - you name it, Ill probably try it.
