About Me
Hi all!! I'm really sorry but I cannot host anyone at the moment as I'm currently moving out of Scotland, going back to my home country. I hope to see you there!
I always find it difficult to write something about myself. Well, the fact is that everyday we’re a different person, every new experience change our perception and there’s nothing wrong with this. I strive to live life fully, whatever it means at various stages of my life. The idea of waking up and feeling any regrets petrifies me, that’s why I never regret things I did in my life. There were dozen things that made me think this way, but one that I really link to CouchSurfing/Traveling in general: When I did my longest hitchhiking trip I realised that there is indeed so called butterfly effect - just one lift that we took/skipped would result in absolutely different story in the end, I could never met all of those amazing people I met. If that makes sense, anyways. I don’t know why i write about this.
Okay I must warn you I do really like „dad” jokes, „corny” jokes and all sort of abstract jokes. I’m not good at telling them, but you can always hit me with one. (Why did old man fell in the well? .. .. .. .. .. Because he didn’t see that well) ba-dum-tsss. So. Yeah.
Anyways more about me - I’m a Software Engineer, writing code for living. And I do really enjoy it, even if you won’t believe me!
PHILOSOPHY
Well I think the part I described above about butterfly effect is kinda true for me and it is one part of my philosophical thinking, other than that - well, there is no such a thing like a wrong decision. At the time you decide to do something you just make the best choice you could think of and even if it feels like it was wrong, you still get the experience. So - Enjoy your life as much as you can! :)
"Remember, kid, there's heroes and there's legends. Heroes get remembered, but legends never die. Follow your heart, kid, and you'll never go wrong." - from movie Peaceful Warrior
"If you awaken from this illusion, and you understand that black implies white, self implies other, life implies death — or shall I say, death implies life — you can conceive yourself. Not conceive, but feel yourself, not as a stranger in the world, not as someone here on sufferance, on probation, not as something that has arrived here by fluke, but you can begin to feel your own existence as absolutely fundamental." - Alan Watts (The Dream of Life)
Okay that’s already getting too long, but well, because I mentioned Alan Watts, there is this speech „What if money were no object”, well that kinda thing that touches me.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
Well.. Once you start CouchSurfing you can’t stop, you became a part of the society and there is no way out! But to be honest, for me it started mainly because of feeling sort of „lonely” - my friends were never much into traveling and I just wanted to find some people that are alike, who thinks likewise. And that’s where CouchSurfing hit me. When I started hosting people I was a shy person, trying to leave my comfort zone and just overcome my introvertism (I do not think that people are either introverts or extraverts, it’s always a mixture). And so far I believe it helped.
Then again it keeps me motivated to hear stories from around the world. Or just to acknowledge that there are people in the world that even being far away share the same intrests, care about the same things etc etc.
I mainly host people as I’m pretty much tied to my full-time job. But the fact is I’m not that much into traveling anymore and because I’m leaving abroad I’d rather spend time with my family back in Poland than traveling. Maybe it sounds boring, but I get the vibe from all the CouchSurfers I host. (and of course it’s not that I’m not traveling or something because I still do)
The other thing are the events on CouchSurfing. I never run an event by myself, probably because of my low confidence or self-esteem, but I was helping to run board games events in Glasgow and organized a volleyball event once.
If you’re going to send me a couch request, please mention something about Penguins, so I will know you at least read it :) I believe it’s more about meeting people and it’s difficult for me to say „no” to personalised messages.
Interests
I find it difficult to sit at one place (I do not have ADD), I just feel like I should be doing something. I try to occupy the time doing sports. I did or still do: juggling, running, calisthenics, volleyball, sports gymnastics/freerunning, longboarding, tennis, swimming and I’m always open to do those things!
I’m not a party kind of person, but I won’t say no for some beautiful landscapes, spending time in the woods, by the sea.
My other interests are - learning new things, calligraphy, diy stuff, psychology, photography.
Music, Movies, and Books
I could spend hours writing here, but I’ll try to shrink it to something that won’t scary anyone..
Books:
Cather in the rye - J.D.Salinger,
The picture of Dorian Gray - O.Wilde,
Journey to the center of the Earth - Jules Verne,
The Trial - Franz Kafka,
Escape from Freedom (The Fear of Freedom), The Art of Loving, To Have or to Be? - Erich Fromm,
I love poetry, especially Polish authors.
Movies:
The Fountain, Black Swan, Noah, Pi, Wrestler, Requiem for a Dream (all Darren Aronofsky movies),
RRRrrr! - don’t judge me for this one, but well, this is the best comedy in the world.
Arrival,
Tim Burton’s movies,
Heima,
Too many to list here..
Music:
This obviously depends on the mood, but I find truly inspiring music by Bon Iver, Ludovico Einaudi, Nils Frahm, Emancipator, Explosions in the Sky, Samuel Barber, Schubert, Zimmer.
London Grammar, Daughter, Cigarettes after sex, The Dumplings, City and Colour, Radiohead, God is an Astronaut, Alcest, Birdy, Mela Koteluk, O.S.T.R. and so on…. :)
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Hitch-hiking from Poland to Montenegro (Poland - Slovakia-Hungary - Serbia - Montenegro - Croatia - Bosnia and Hercegovina - Croatia - Slovenia - Austria- Czech Republic - Poland)
I always had this dream to learn to surf.. This year (2017) I learned how to swim during the winter time and then I went on holidays to Bali, Indonesia and get surfing lessons! I did pretty well! Although I managed to fraction my rib, so I had to finish after the first lessons. But I will definetely try it again.
Teach, Learn, Share
I love to share (almost) everything. Whatever I know, I can teach you - programming microcontrollers low-level in Assembler(haha, okay I don’t know whether i can do it anymore), how to knit, calligraphy, play board games, volleyball, cook polish food, polish, etc etc.
This year I would like to learn to play piano, sing and dance, things that I always wanted to do, but felt too shy to try. I’m always up to learn new languages. If you can help me with any of those, please let me know :))
(I'm always happy to learn new things for example during last year I learn some simple things like: how to brew a beer, how to tie a bow tie, how to bake a bread, how to bake a cheese cake, how to service bicycle - change tyres, brakes, bleed disc brakes etc - how to swim, how to do a wheelie, how to say "give me a cookie" in three languages, how to ride a quad, how to ride a jetski and some other stuff that I can't even remember.. )
