About Me

Hello~ I am 33 years old. I lived in Florida my whole life with the exception of the 4.5 years I spent teaching English in South Korea. I studied Psychology at UCF and Biotecnology at Palm Beach State College.
I am currently trying to figure out my lifes path. For a career I am interested in mental health & nutrition counseling and research. There is also a part of me that thinks I should be a nomad and travel the world some more! I so long to travel more, particularly to Peru, Mexico, Guatemala, Cuba, North Korea, different parts of China, Vietnam. Of course, there is a lot I have yet to explore in the U.S.A.!
I have visited China (Beijing, Guangzhou, Yangshuo), India (Cochin, Munnar), Thailand (Koh Pipi, Bangkok, Chaing Mai), Japan (Kyoto, Tokyo), and a number of European cities (Madrid, Barcelona, Amsterdam, Nante, Paris, Brussels, Milan).

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Hello, I moved back to Florida August 2016 from a 4-year stint in South Korea. I came back to the U.S. to further my education, as I do not wish to teach English forever. I am looking for places to stay in Ft. Myers because I am about to accept a (low paying) internship. Housing is prohibitively expensive so I am looking for some affordable options which may mean couch surfing until I find the most suitable of options.

Interests

More than anything, I love to eat. I love to talk about food, cook food, learn about the ways food grows, how it is digested and how it serves the body. I love the traditions that surround food, the wisdom that passes through traditional foods. I love to look at food. Haha. I love eating with people and talking about food.

Music, Movies, and Books

I love a little bit of everything as long as it's good. That goes for all consumable media. If it is done well and contains some artistic expression then I can probably tolerate it, or even enjoy it.

Music: The Knife, Devin Townsend, Pochonbo Electric Ensemble, The Mighty Hannibal, Ray Lynch, mewithoutYou, Sonic the Hedgehog OST, Donkey Kong Country OST
Now that I am old, I don't have time to listen to music, but I recently made the first steps toward a Spotify account!

Movies: Being John Malkovich, Rushmore, I Heart Huckabees, 2001: A Space Odyssey, Contact
I generally go for feelgood or thought-provoking. More recently, I really enjoyed Tully.

Books: I mostly read nonfiction; Parasite Rex was the number one most awesome book, anything by Oliver Sacks is rad, I love Sam Harris, loved Buddhism Plain and Simple, Eating on the Wild Side is a must!
Fiction: The Color Purple is a favorite. Ted Chiang's compilation of sci-fi shorts was great. The Gleaming Jewels was a lucky find that I would recommend to anyone with a mind like mine. 2001: A Space Odyssey, 2010, working on 2061.. slowly.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I survived the Kumba!

Teach, Learn, Share

Hmm.. yes. I used to have the time to explore my mind and find a lesson in everything that I encounter. It is unfortunate that life as an adult moves at the pace it does because I have found increasingly less time to listen to my mind. And even to listen to my environment. I am hoping that through interacting with people on counch surfing I can be reminded of these lessons I feel I once knew and held dearly, and perhaps even find more to learn!
