About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To explore - Lands, languages, other people, and the nature of being

ABOUT ME

I'm a linguist, musician, travel addict, martial-artist, treehugger, dancer, quiet contemplator, and more than occasionally, a complete madman. I'm in love with exploring and discovering the depths and rhythms of places, languages, cultures, and people. I want to know who you really are - your dreams, your fears, What makes you come alive?

PHILOSOPHY

Love well! Love others, love the Earth, love life, love the mystery, and love myself. For only when we learn to truly love and accept ourselves completely will we be able to give our love fully and selflessly to others. Life is a journey, with no destination. We never get to the top. Every experience, if we allow it to be, is an opportunity for growth, a teacher, as is every person who crosses our path. Finally, I try to remember to laugh at myself, and walk through life with a light heart and ready smile.

Interests

I'm interested in things I don't understand, in new experiences, cultures, philosophies, and ways of life. I love learning and speaking other languages. Music is essential! Playing, listening, dancing to it! I'm interested in both physical and spiritual disciplines (ex: martial arts and meditation). I love good food, and especially experimenting, cooking, and eating it with good people. I love to write - poetry, prose, music, and a good dose of garbage. I play the guitar and sing and am interested in learning other instruments. I love the outdoors - breathing clean air alone on a mountain top feeds my soul like nothing else. I'm interested in deep, meaningful conversations as well as wild, raucous, revelry. I'm interested in finding simple ways to make the world a better place.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music made by/with friends, anything that inspires my feet to dance. Lately listening to Band of Horses, The Frames, Bon Iver, Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros...
Books: Bad Omens, Conscious Living, The Invitation, The Alchemist, good cookbooks, Skinny Legs and All, The Lord of the Rings, and on and on and on...

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Too much to put in a box on the screen! One that comes to mind at the moment: Cliff diving by torch light in an underground wet cave in the jungle of Costa Rica.

Teach, Learn, Share

I'm a certified and experienced teacher of English as a second language. I'm also somewhat of a linguist and speak Chinese and Spanish. I like talking about language and teaching what I know to others as well as learning from them. I'd love to cook together with you, and share what we know! I'd love to share knowledge of spiritual disciplines and martial arts - I've studied Taiji and Kungfu in China, and I always like to see new styles! Let's share philosophies, interests, books and music - maybe jam out if you're the musical type!
