About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Escape!

ABOUT ME

I'm a teacher-mentor in the interior of Sabah, Borneo. I enjoy travelling and also living vicariously through other people's experiences via hiking and cycling websites, and books. When I'm not working abroad, I live in northern Spain which I first discovered when I walked from Chartres to Santiago, researching the old pilgrim route. Having lived in many countries during my life, northern Spain feels as near to home as I might get. I was born in London, England, but grew up in rural Northland, New Zealand. I have a degree in Anthropology - OK, I'm scratching around now, so I'm going to stop.

PHILOSOPHY

Anything for a quiet life.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I have hosted a few intrepid travellers, in the UAE, Libya and Borneo. Basically, if you get to where I am, I will do my best to host you! I have yet to try the other side of the coin, i.e. surfing, but it really is a pleasure to host people who make it out to whatever remote outpost I happen to be working in.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

It is a great shame that many people on this website seem to think it is some kind of hook-up service. I have probably turned away more people than I've hosted, as a result. With genuine CSers, I've been very lucky so far.

Music, Movies, and Books

Far too many to mention, but I have fairly catholic taste in music, will watch any decent film - I have a weakness for documentaries, hate rom-com - and will read anything at all, minus romance stories. I won't necessarily enjoy it, but I'll read it!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Hiked around Ascension Island - weirdest place I've ever been.

Teach, Learn, Share

I'm a pretty dab hand at traditional Spanish cooking, and make a mean Yorkshire pudding.

Countries I’ve Visited

Australia, Denmark, Egypt, Germany, Ireland, Oman, Saint Helena, Ascension and Tristan da Cunha, Singapore, United Kingdom, United States

Countries I’ve Lived In

France, Italy, Libya, New Zealand, Norway, Spain, United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom
