ABOUT ME

My name is Takuya Oka. I go by Taku.
Born and raised in Yokohama, Japan (30 mins from Tokyo). I'm a traveler, blogger, and entrepreneur wannabe. I became a part of CouchSurfing since 2009 and it's really opened up my eyes.

I studied at the University of San Francisco majoring in Entrepreneurship. After college, I joined a Japanese Marketing Research Startup and worked in Manila office (Philippine) for three years. At the beginning, I didn't have any friends or relatives there, but through CS, I met a lot of amazing people and made quite a few great friends. Getting to know new people and sharing their stories. That's the beauty of CouchSurfing.

In December 2012, I left my job for a new challenge. Currently, I'm enjoying my "Career Gap" and getting ready for the next leap.

I'd say I'm quite open-minded and positive person. I love talking and listening to people's stories. You can get to know more about me from the reference part below.

Por qué estoy en Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I've joined CS when I was in San Francisco. I attended a couple of events, but I was not that active then. But, I've started to be more involved in CS when I started working in Manila. I hosted and attended quite a few events there. And I have surfed a couch once in KL in January 2013. (I'm not a CS virgin!)

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Attended quite a few CS events (drinking, clubbing, house party and etc.) I also have hosted a series of event called "Sake Night" in Manila. It was a potluck party. I invited some CS friends to my apartment and cooked some Japanese food (I love cooking!) Of course, we got many bottles of sake and other liquors. We had three or four Sake Night over three years.

I've hosted CSer in my place a few times, but I've surfed only once. I wish I would do more in 2013.
