Overview
About Me
I'm upbeat and creative and I like meeting kindred spirits. I would love to travel more but at the moment my life is joyfully tied up in preparing for a career change into dance/movement therapy.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
As I am trying to save money to go back to school for my master's degree, I am trying to squeeze in small trips on a SERIOUS budget. Perhaps eventually I can get my act together and clean my apartment up enough to allow someone else to stay with me for a few days or so, but until then, I'm on here for inexpensive housing accommodations while I travel.
Interests
Oh what a loaded question!! I'll keep it to the big ones. I LOVE dance. (**LOVE**) I'm inclined to salsa and swing dancing (cuz that's what I've taken most classes in) but I've taken classes in many other kinds of dance too, and when music plays I can funky chicken with the best of them! I really enjoy creating things (art, needleworks, choreography, crafty things, good/new food, music, you name it). I've been recording my thoughts in journals for 16 years of my life and I find it to be my best teacher.

Music, Movies, and Books
My short list of books that were so good that I own them, read them more than once, or I remember the author's name are almost all children's and young adult's books. The Missing Piece by Shel Silverstein, Oh, The Places You'll Go by Dr. Seuss, Things Fall Apart by Chinua Achebe, and The Seven healing Chakras by Brenda Davies are the ones that come most readily to mind.
Hm... favorite movies... a little easier to recall but not a much longer list. These would be movies I've seen that have moved me so much that I feel my life is incomplete without them, and I would (or have already) actually put down real money to buy and own them. They would be Black Swan, Inception, and Beasts of The Southern Wild.
Favorite music? Now this one is a free for all but I consistently go to dancehall reggae to get moving on a lazy day and I go to country music to feel connected to my roots.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Stepping off the plane and into the warmth of the country, women dressed in lovely dresses singing welcome at the airport, riding up a winding road to what looked like a mansion on a hill, eating freshly caught and cooked escovitch fish on a beach in the evening, watching the lights of the capital from the veranda at night... Visiting my family in Jamaica for the first time was one of the most amazing experiences in my life.
Teach, Learn, Share
I volunteer teaching dance workshops to homeless children, learning how resilient and inspirational children are, and sharing my joy and passion for dance and life with a community of like spirits.
What I Can Share with Hosts
My mother taught me well regarding how to be a good house guest. I follow house rules, I ask questions when I am unclear, and above all I am grateful. Although, even without mummy's teaching I would be grateful!
I don't expect anything from my host beyond safe and clean accommodations and a lack of hostility towards me. High expectations, I know, haha! I don't like to feel like a burden or a draw on resources so I don't ask for much. I do enjoy cooking for myself (and to share) whenever possible. If I use/eat your food, I leave a small contribution towards groceries. I don't drive and I don't expect to be driven, so if my host wants to help me get where I'm trying to go, I leave a small contribution toward travel expenses.
All that being said, I am a sunny soul and people of cheerful disposition receive my cheer in return!
