About Me

CURRENT MISSION

I recently, and surprisingly, found out my visa renewal was declined so I have 4-6 weeks of free time to see the most I can of this part of the world before I have to return home.

ABOUT ME

Heya!

My name is Conor. I'm a 23 year old from Ireland who somehow found himself a decent in job in Toronto last year. A bit of miscommunication and some dodgy paper work has left me without a visa at the end of July, which unfortunately means I have to leave Canada. On the bright side, it also means I have around a month to see as much of it as I can before I head home. I'm a nice, super laid-back, sociable guy who enjoys good music, good food, good drinks and most of all good company.

PHILOSOPHY

The clichéd goals of life like success, good relationships, family etc. can all be covered by the even more clichéd goal of being happy. Be nice to the people around you and be happy and I believe that covers it all.

I also believe that you should try fill your life with as many positive experiences as possible, so if that means seeing the world to get that done, then see the world!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

For the moment, I am looking to couchsurf rather than host as I'm leaving on my travels very soon. I've hosted once and it was a great experience so I'm looking forward to being settled again so I can meet more people on their travels.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

My experiences in couchsurfing are pretty limited. I have friends at home in Ireland who were/are very active in both hosting and couchsurfing so I met many of their hostees and got a feel for what it's all about. I was always left with a very good impression of the whole thing. I've hosted once, very recently, and it was great to meet people on their travels and hear their experiences.

Interests

Music would be my main interest. I love all sorts of music but I generally gravitate towards downtempo/lounge-y type stuff. Cinematic Orchestra, Bonobo, Nightmares on Wax, pretty much anyone on Ninja Tune. I also love hip-hop, jazz, folk, electronic etc. Anything from Beck and Godspeed You! Black Emperor to Blawan and Lone.

I also like to produce music and I've gigged a bit around Ireland. Moving to Canada has somewhat stumped any creativity so I'm hoping a bit of travel might inspire something.

I'm also into rugby, a bit of soccer (I'm awful) and a few sociable drinks when the time arises.

Music, Movies, and Books

Movies: I love comedies and British film. Trainspotting, Snatch, Broken Flowers....

Music: Downtempo, hip-hop, http://www.last.fm/user/willieodea

Books: Mostly non-fiction and that's when I find time to read anything. A bit of travel helps stimulate my reading.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Although probably nothing to the hardened couchsurfer, moving to another country on my own, to a job I knew very little about was big step for me. Fortunately, it's been mostly plain sailing thanks to the amazing people I've met and I wouldn't swap the experience for the world.

Teach, Learn, Share

I could share an cúpla focal gaeilge (a few Irish words)!
