Overview
About Me
CURRENT MISSION
To learn everything. This project may involve cloning myself a bunch of times, if only to catch up on some reading.
ABOUT ME
I'm currently tutoring Informatics, Philosophy, Psychology and Mathematics at the University of Edinburgh, as a means of sustaining my writing habit; I'm working on science fiction novel for kids and adults, titled 'Morta Felix' (contains bad behaviour, robotic squid and a long and perilous journey) and a science fiction podcast, The Squidpod. I think my friends would say that I have fidgetty brains, interested in everything, a bit prone to going off on tangents, and a good friend. They might also say something about my cooking, which is excellent
PHILOSOPHY
That would be a three-glasses-of-single-malt conversation. Unless you seriously want me to get into researchy stuff about reconciling ontological relativism with scientific realism or the metastrategies of world-modelling systems - in which case it's a three-cups-of-coffee conversation.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I have a bedroom in my flat that is sometimes occupied by my son, but at other times is not. When he's at his mum's, it is available couchsurfing space. I may also start travelling again.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
In my undergrad days, I have couchsurfed and provided couchspace, but that was before it had a name and a website. In my PhD days, a few kind couchsurfing hosts helped me out when Amsterdam's horrifying rentals market failed me.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
The first time I held my son.
Sunrise from the Aonach Eigach, Glencoe (after getting stuck up there all night!).
Catching an Infernal Noise Brigade gig in an anarchist squat in Hamburg, on my way home from a conference on Language Change and Evolution.
Being with a student at the exact moment the thing they were stuck on suddenly makes sense.
What I Can Share with Hosts
Will record audio-narration for couchspace :D
Also, I can do academic and literary editing and proofreading, if you like. Also, audio editing.
Or I could provide a little tuition in a range of subjects, including computer science, mathematics, English literature, philosophy, cognitive science, and linguistics.
Or, if you happen to host a spoken word night, (or would just like someone to read stories and poems in your living room) I'd be happy to perform.
And of course, I'm happy to cook tasty things for you. I've been learning Japanese cooking, and make excellent ramen, takoyaki, and sushi.
