About Me

CURRENT MISSION

I am currently attempting to see as many states west of the Mississippi as is possible before having to settle down. I am a Floridian who has traveled overseas and throughout the southeast but never ventured beyond the Mississippi until recently.

ABOUT ME

I enjoy cross-cultural experiences, especially international travel. When traveling, I prefer staying with national hosts rather than staying at a hotel. I would rather pass on seeing popular tourist sites than pass on an opportunity to spend a day working alongside of a local person. Many of my trips overseas have been volunteering on humanitarian projects.

I am an outdoorsman but not a fanatic of anything in particular. I enjoy hiking, biking, swimming and canoeing. I am starting to get into backpacking and camping. I have cave dived, sky dived, and scuba dived. There is something about falling through the sky, crawling through the ground or floating down into the ocean, feeling like you are going somewhere you don't belong. This feeling also explains why you might see me walking down a dark alley in a strange city. Curiosity killed the cat, but satisfaction brought him back.

I have worked at numerous jobs across various fields, and thus have never considered myself as having a career. My top three favorite jobs were volunteering with the United States Peace Corps in Kazakhstan; working for the National Park Service; and being involved with a community development non-profit in Orlando, Florida.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I have hosted guest from various states and countries, and I have been a guest in numerous homes, sometimes living with host families overseas for extended periods. Up until now, I never considered my experiences as couch surfing, only thought of them as being a good host or a considerate guest.

Interests

My interests are all things in life. I can't stand when people say no to an experience because its not their thing or one of their interests. I could rattle off a hundred different interests that have passed my way, but why bother with the past.

My current interests are . . . well, you will just have to ask. Most likely, my greatest interest at the moment will be you. A person can learn a lot from new found friends.

Music, Movies, and Books

I enjoy foreign films in their native language (I don't mind subtitles). I find that listening to foreign languages helps me to develop an ear for the language, thus helping me to place people.

I enjoy any music in which I can understand the lyrics. No lyrics, no problem. If its loud music with undiscernable words, then I am likely not enjoying the music.

Small tidbit: I have not owned a television my adult life except for one year. I enjoy some shows but overall I believe people spend too much time being influenced by media and wasting their day.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I tried to leave this blank but CS wouldn't let me. Why leave it blank? Amazing moments are just that, a moment in time. That special time and moment will likely never be repeated, and is usually quite personal and contextual. In the world of social networks I still try to keep some things personal. If you would like to know about my special moments, and have the time to listen, ask and I will share.
