About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To see more of our Once Great Planet Earth (before the GREAT DEPRESSION puts an end to it!

ABOUT ME

Mantra: Let me live in a house by the side of the road, beside the Highway of Life, and be a friend to man.

The Life Course until now: I love objective science and this impelled me to the university where I took my degree in electrical engineering. (Not a shining star, alas!) I had quite interesting work in the mid 60s, those days of the fierce arms race and the early period of space exploration. But, as I tired of the office politics I sensed that I was not in the right groove and needed change. A friend urged me to take my talents to sea as a merchant seafarer-communicator. I would be there today were it not for the fact that computers and satellites obviated me. But in those 28 years I have been able to visit 75 countries (which list includes some obscure islands). Now, as long as health and energy last I shall go out to meet my CS brethren in many other places.

I am characteristically a quiet, contemplative person. I like good music at a sensible level, and that is not restricted to what we call classical music, although that constitutes the vital core. I need the daily refreshment of Beethoven and that ilk, for such music nourishes my soul. But there are times I need to hear the blaring bagpipes of my Scottish forebears.

I love good books, though my list might differ markedly from yours. Books of poetry, objective moral philosophy, the hard sciences about Earth and cosmos, Austrian economics, just to give you a short list.

PHILOSOPHY

Philosophy: The object of life is to enjoy it, neither sacrificing ourselves to others, nor demanding that they sacrifice to us. We will gain far more of value, and of the lasting kind, by mutual cooperation rather than by competition. The whole Universe operates on well-settled Laws as laid down by personified Mother Nature. She will not tolerate indefinite disobedience to Her Laws, and in due course will make corrections with an indifferent hammer blow. The whole World presently sits at the threshold of just such a correction. Prepare thyself.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I visit you, you visit me. How else to put it? And if you will lend me your ear I'll extoll Austrian economics. And maybe Enlightened Objectivism...

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Just a week ago here in Colonia I bumped into Michi and Kaethi Renolds, plus their LandRover Defender, all from Zurich. They were on their 404th day Halifax to Ushuaia. I had them at my place that evening for dinner and wine and much conversation and had them spend the night in a real bed and enjoy hot showers. We are now family forever. It was a great experience. Just wet my appetite for many more as we roam the world.

Interests

Classical music (but much more) good books (not necessarily the classics), poetry (the informative kind) fine art, good wine and friends of like mind to chat and share with. And occasionally ham radio: Radioaficianado CX1FHZ. And traveling.

Music, Movies, and Books

Movies: Breaker Morant, The Bucket List, One Flew Over The Cuckoos Nest, Lawrence of Arabia, Dr. Zhivago, on and on. Books by Ayn Rand, Morris Tannehill, Albert J. Nock, Immanuel Velikovsky, and much more. All the music of Beethoven the Master. Lots from other great composers of the classical period.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Just a DVD showing Zero-Point negative free energy being extracted from the immense vacuum of space. Harness this and solve huge world problems!

Teach, Learn, Share

I am always open to learning. I am prepared to teach what I know to those who show an interest, not to force my views on others. Yes, I am a proponent of sharing. The rewards are grander when we give and share, and these rewards last forever.
