About Me

CURRENT MISSION

After spending a lifetime working hard and raising our family, we realize we have limited time left together. WHere did the time go??? So, we'd like to see some interesting country, make new friends and find places where we can help... orphanages?

ABOUT ME

I'm a happy gal married to a happy guy for 38 years. With 4 super kids, spouses and grandkids who are out traveling the world. We figure it's time for us to travel the world too! I've lived in Alaska all my life, was homestead raised and though we live in Anchorage now, it's not because we wouldn't rather be out in the bush. My happy guy has worked for the Alaska Railroad for 30+ years. We're both retired and are looking for opportunities to see the world, meet new people and be of service to folks.

PHILOSOPHY

I'm a Christian, as is my husband It's my job description to love the Lord and love people, in that order. Not to fix the world or politics.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I've spent the past 9 months volunteering as a cook in a Bible camp in Hatchers Pass, Willow, AK. What a blast to work with and train teens and young adults... and to put out great meals. And to be out in the boondocks instead of in a city!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Absolutely none, except what we've been told by our son and daughter in law, who have enjoyed all their ventures, as surfers and as hosts.

Interests

I'm a reader and fabric nut... textiles... bright colors. Very interested in people and different cultures, architecture and history. My husband is an electrician/refrigeration guy, especially interested in salt water refrigeration and how things work. Actually, we're just kind of nosy about everything.

Music, Movies, and Books

Love mysteries from old writers in Australia, (Arthur Upton), and from England, Scotland and Ireland. Alexander McCall Smith!!! Love all kinds of music, trained to sing classically. Enjoy everything from Owl City to Mozart, from Brad Paisley to Buble. Addicted to Sherlock (Cumberbach) or Robert Downey, Jr., the Hobbit, Lord of the Rings, Count of Monte Cristo and on an on. NCIS, Mentalist, Chuck, Eureka...

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

The Northlern Lights in the dead of night, with the cold, sparkle and buzz, and a thousand stars twinkling in black sky.
Terrifying lightening and thunder in the mountains north of Anchorage, during a summer rainstorm. NOT a common sight for lifelong Alaskans.
Seeing an amazing cloud formation in the skies of northern Kansas as we raced up the freeway between tornado warnings.
Flying over the Naknek river in a bush plane during the opening of commercial fishing season and watching all the colorful boats streaming out of the river mouth and into Bristol Bay.

Teach, Learn, Share

We want to learn Spanish!!! My husband is experienced in refrigeration and electical... house and commercial as well as railway. He's looking for examples of salt water refrigeration to observe. I've worked with people for years, excellent at customer service, a coordinator and been a cook in a camp working with rotating staff. Not sure how that helps but...
