About Me
Hello, everyone! My name is Tanner and currently I am a 22 year-old American who started traveling with the goal of taking a gap year between college and law school (the jury is still out as to whether or not law school is in my immediate future). Most of the reason for this break stemmed from my desire to travel and see a bit of the world. A few years back I was fortunate enough to go on a ten-day trip in high school to France and Spain, and now I want to return to Europe, though this time for a bit longer.
My primary desire is to learn a bit about local culture, accumulate some awesome experiences and new friends, and to hone my language skills. It has been four years since I studied French (which I studied for five years), two since I studied Spanish (I studied that language for two years), and three since I studied Mandarin Chinese (also studied it for two years, though I remember little). I also took a few courses in Italian.
I welcome any messages and would love the opportunity to explore and see what any areas along my trek through Europe have to offer!
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
From the middle of February to the end of April, I will be traveling through Europe looking to elongate my stay as much as possible and find the best experiences there can be. That being said, a friendly place to stay seems like it would fit every aspect of what I am looking for.
Since I have started traveling I have met amazing people, both fellow travelers and a few locals. However, I am always lacking the latter! Couchsurfing definitely provides a great way to get in touch with locals, which is always a great thing when looking to experience the culture.
Interests
I've spent my past few summers at the beach working Ocean Rescue, so aside from swimming and other beach activities, I'm pretty eclectic in my interests. I am really focused on learning foreign languages as of right now because I will be going to Graduate School for International Affairs hopefully while attending Law School.
However, I have also been seriously thinking about taking a few more years off to teach English abroad, so I am in some ways shopping around for cities that I would love to learn from while I would be teaching others. Language and culture experience are two large factors!

Music, Movies, and Books
I'll read anything really and pretty much have the same outlook on music and movies, though reading is a primary passion. I'll always be a Harry Potter fan, first and foremost, but my bookshelves are far more varied and ever-growing.
What I Can Share with Hosts
I know a good deal about current events and processes in the States since I studied political science and criminology. The conversations I have had with people about our cultures, governments, and other social practices have been very interesting.
