About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Adjusting back to Sydney!

ABOUT ME

How do I introduce myself?
I am eternally curious about everything. My close friends say I am full of contradictions, but I would put that down to living amongst so many cultures and having so many different types of friends. These friends, in their own way, have helped to make me who I am- more culturally aware and sensitive, more open, and more willing to dare to be different.

I try to keep my word- I'll do things if I say I will, and expect this of others too. I'm a loyal friend.

I love organising dinner parties, nature, hanging out with friends, experience new things and travelling.

I was born in Malaysia but have lived in Australia most of my life.

I study Communication and International studies, and have lived in China for one year, travelling and learning the language and culture. I lived in Kunming.

I spent 2008-09 in Denmark, working, studying and travelling. Very different world, but loved it also.

I want to learn how to say at least one thing in every language!

PHILOSOPHY

“The world needs dreamers and the world needs doers. But above all, the world needs dreamers who do.”

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I've vicariously surfed/hosted for the past months, but as of May 2009 I actually did it!! Amazing. I've had many friends/acquaintances couch surf my place non-officially.

I joined 2 CS events in Prague, met up with some cool CSers in Vienna, had coffee with a few more CSers in their cities while travelling!

I have never managed to open my home to a couch surfer- not because I never wanted to, but it's a bit difficult with the location (non city centre).

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Fantastically! It is so fun, but you also get to learn about people's lives more.

Nevertheless I have had so many friends visiting me in China and Denmark. I love having guests and showing them my base. Couchsurfing-wise, I have often stayed with my friends from different countries, when visiting them. And it is so fun and interesting to experience different ways of living. Especially breakfasts! =)

I don't mind meeting up for a beer or taking you out for sightseeing in the city if I have time- I'll probably be as much a tourist as you my first few months back!

Interests

reading, music, trying to cycle and not fall, travelling, photography, playing piano and flute, modern art, nature.

I am trying my hand at knitting, but I can't call it a great success!

Music, Movies, and Books

Hmm! I'm putting Star Trek down because I saw it in my childhood, but have now forgotten everything about it. I'm a sucker for sci fi movies, spy series, save the world movies like Alias, Xmen, oh they are so fun and dramatic~!! =)

I'm also a Jane Austen buff, Anne of Green Gables fan,
Captain Planet and the Planeteers supporter. I like Period movies and period novels, mostly from England.
I LOVE Historical fiction.

Music- don't hold it against me but stopped intentionally listening to music many years ago. So I probably wouldn't know what song you're talking about unless it was from the Spice Girls/Hanson era. ;) I do like listening to music tho and I love going to live music gigs! Jazz, rock, classical, anything with a good tune. I played the flute and piano for over a decade, so I have a soft spot for music with those instruments....

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Many.

A 48 kilometre trek in the middle of nowhere through the mountains in South West China. Coughing up dust because of the dirt roads. An old lady who looked 100 years but was not yet 50. The wooden houses on stilts with no electricity or running water. A fireplace burning for warmth and light. The fact I couldn't communicate well with them. The simple food they ate. I went back in time. A raw experience to remember.

My first visit to Europe was in Jan 2008, and since then I'd been waiting to see snow falling... alas it never snowed in Denmark. It rained, the sun shined, it poured, it sleeted and quickly went away, but no beautiful snow. The first time I saw SNOW FALLING was New Years Eve 2008/9 in Verona, home of Romeo and Juliet in Italy. A beautiful New years with someone I loved. So yes, it was an amazing moment for me. What can I say, I'm easily pleased.

Teach, Learn, Share

hmm. I could teach you how to make a Danish dessert!
Every friend who has visited me in Denmark has experienced a danish breakfast... it is delightfully delicious.

I can teach you to count with your hands in chinese sign language...to boil rice without having to read the packet instructions! hehehe... I can cook, but please don't expect that just because I look yellow I can cook asian better than you (I have a few special dishes I can whip up though) =)
