Tan Qi Xian aka Jett, an open-minded teen born and raised in Penang, Malaysia, and currently working as a civil engineering undergraduate student at The University of Hong Kong (HKU). I am currently pursuing an exchange study at University of Nottingham.

Being a backpack traveller from Southeast Asia, I am excited to explore the world’s best visiting places and food in a budget way. It is a boon to make new friends throughout the journey and exchange our life experiences with each other.

As a keen learner, I am interested in a variety of topics, especially in political, economic and geographical issues. I am always willing to share my personal opinions on the ongoing world topics as well as those historical incidents. Besides, I have a great passion for music as I am a drummer and a saxophonist. As a football lover as well (love to play but still an amateur), I would be willing to have someone sharing thoughts on the latest football news and gossip.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I wish to meet new friends throughout my Couchsurfing journey. As mentioned, I am always excited to share my thoughts and opinions with everyone I meet. Being a happy-go-lucky person, impromptu trips have always been in my bucket list. It is exhilarated to make someone I meet unexpectedly to be my close friend. I am mainly towards Chinese songs and orchestral music, besides being interested in golden classical songs such as Those Were The Days, Careless Whisper etc.

Movies? Well, I am mostly a follower of the latest movie trends. Anyway, I am a nature lover who loves watching channels such as National Geographic and Discovery. Black Mirror series also fits my taste buds as I am interested to see the possible effects of the future technologies on our lives.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

To me, choosing the UK to pursue my university exchange study is extremely amazing, as it helps me to fulfil my travel dream in Europe. As a Malaysian who is pursuing an undergraduate study in Hong Kong, it is my first time entering Europe. The people in the UK has amazed me so much as they are mostly kind and friendly, especially in the first few days from the airport to Nottingham when I felt so lost, they lent me helping hands throughout my journey. I am so grateful and glad to have decided to study in the UK.
