Overview
About Me
The name's Tara Mac, and I'm a 22 year old University student looking to experience adventures that are incredible, meaningful and full of connection. I love reading, comics, running, Scottish dance, music and art. I think old bookshops are as fascinating as museums, that a good cup of coffee is worth smiling about and that you can never have too many colours in your hair. I think the stories people tell each other late at night over cups of tea are powerful things. I am inspired by my life experiences and consider myself a bit of a writer.
I've recently joined couchsurfing with the intention to experience the more meaningful, personal aspects of this world. It's all well and good to visit somewhere amazing, take a photo and say you've been there now, but the true memories are the friendships you make and the conversations you have with people you meet.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I'm here to experience the world through people's kindness. I want to travel and connect, make new friends, see the cities and countries through their eyes, in the hopes that one day I can return the favour.
I think this is a brilliant system, and I've always preferred to get to know a city by putting it beneath my feet and just seeing where the world takes me.
I love showing people around, as it always helps to have fresh eyes when discovering some new place together.

Music, Movies, and Books
Music: Gorillaz, Rush, Daft Punk, Said the Whale, The Arctic Monkeys, Our Lady Peace, and pretty much everything really.
I love small Canadian bands like Paper Lions and Said the Whale, and am really into punk, ska and reggae. Movies: One Week, Rear Window, Once, The Commitments, Cecil B. Demented, The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo (swedish), The Fall.
Books: American Gods and anything by Neil Gaiman, City of Bohane, Ready Player One, but really this list is endless.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Swum in a Loch in northern Scotland in October at midnight. I looked up at the stars and felt that there aren't enough seconds in the world to capture potential moments like this.
I've climbed the CN Tower, run 12 Km through Canadian wilderness, and I've swam in more lakes than I can count. I've experienced my little bit of Canada as best I can and am ready to discover more.
Teach, Learn, Share
If you want to learn about 'Canadian Culture', look no further. I know plenty about everything from maple syrup to music, hockey and politics.
I am a Celtic Studies student, which means I also have plenty to share about Celtic culture. Want to learn how to Ceilidh dance? Or play the bagpipes? Just ask!
I am a nerd - and proud of it! My knowledge of science fiction, fantasy and comic books is quite extensive. Interested in knowing more about the Marvel Universe? Or discussing the philosophy behind Watchmen? I'm your gal.
I love to learn new skills and have amassed quite a number of hobbies, from sailing to knitting to raw vegan baking, it seems I know a little bit about quite a bit!
I'm happy to share and help out with anything hosts or surfers need helping with, as I generally just enjoy lending a hand.
What I Can Share with Hosts
I come from a big family and I am perfectly content helping with dishes and housework.
I also love to cook and improvise in the kitchen - you'd be surprised with how easy it is to make a delicious meal using ten ingredients or less!
I love cooking (and eating) vegetarian and vegan food, baked goods and treats.
