About Me

Recently moved back to DC with my husband, Drew, after spending 2014-2015 on an extended backpacking trip through SE Asia and Africa. We sold most of what we owned before we left for the trip, so our apartment is a work in progress, but we do have a decent full-size sofa couch in our living room to share with someone who needs a place to crash for a few nights (max 2 guests sharing the couch).

Since we returned to the US, Drew and I have become really passionate about environmental issues, permaculture, and urban agriculture/gardening. We love being outdoors and are learning the art of gleaning and foraging, along with mushroom hunting.

Professionally, Drew and I both work with non-profits in the area of international development.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

It makes me happy to think about helping to give someone else as awesome a travel experience as we've had over the last year.

Interests

We have a ton of hobbies and interests. We were recently certified in permaculture design and we're founding members of a new co-op in DC called the DC Urban Gardeners (DUG) Network. We love cooking and learning to prepare multi-ethnic cuisine; growing and hunting mushrooms; making cheese and home-grown sour-dough breads; playing foosball; swimming; hiking; exploring anything outdoors; photography; snorkeling and scuba diving (recently PADI certified); and meeting new people. And traveling, of course!

Music, Movies, and Books

My all-time favorite book is called The Devil in the White City, by Erik Larsen. (It's a true story about a serial killer at the World's Fair in Chicago in the 1890s.) As for movies, I love scary stuff and zombie movies. Psychological thrillers are my fave and sci-fi is great, too. A few classic favorites include The Matrix, Fight Club, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Donnie Darko, and 28 Days Later. I love all sorts of music and especially swapping favorite artists with friends and people I meet along the way.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

A seven-day trek through the Himalayan mountains. No guide, no porter; mind-blowing.
