About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To learn as much as I can about this world and life and the people with whom I share these wondrous things.

ABOUT ME

Adventurous, compassionate, learner for life - it is only through continuously seeking knowledge and experience that we gain wisdom.

I am a history nerd at heart - though I have a made a career out of teaching primarily Spanish and math, I have a love for history - reading about it, envisioning it, seeing its remains in the modern world.

PHILOSOPHY

I live by this quote: "Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn't do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover."

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

With the true Austin spirit - with kindness, friendship and Southern hospitality.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I have never couch surfed with strangers, but I have slept on the couch of many a gracious friend or friend of friend all over the world. I feel like this type of experience can enhance my travels even more by providing a more personal touch - making a friend with someone from the place I am exploring. I feel like providing this opportunity for others in my own home will also allow me the experience to meet new people from all over the world and hopefully gain new friends for the long-term.

Interests

TRAVEL! Language, culture, food, learning, teaching, reading, dancing, hiking, camping, exploring, discovering. I am a teacher of math and Spanish by trade, working with children ages 10-18. Because of this, most of my traveling occurs during the summer months. My passion also lies history and in writing - my dream is to publish a book within the next few years.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Temple Karnak - breathtaking!
Machu Picchu - spiritually peaceful.

Teach, Learn, Share

There is great power in letting go.

When it feels like every step you take results in failure, stop and breathe. In this moment of stillness, you will realize where you got off of your life's true path and know what you must do to get back on it. When you are on your true path, the right things seem to fall into place, including happiness, even if they are not the "things" you had expected or thought you desired.

Austin is a forward-thinking island of well-educated liberals in a sea of close-minded American conservativism. Do not let the rest of Texas deter you from traveling to this wonderful city of friendly people, extraordinary food, live music, the great outdoors and laid-back Southern hospitality. Texas itself can be quite charming if you can overlook its conservative nature - kind of like Scotland ;)
