I spent a week with a Texan friend from college, a beautiful Spanish/Colombian social activist couple, a deaf Austrian adventurer, an Australian school teacher, a retired Singaporean publisher, a mixed martial arts prize fighter, a group of Brazilian film makers, and a German missionary on a little cargo boat on the Amazon between Manaus and Belém. We slept in hammocks, sharing bread, stories, the sunrise and awe at lightening in the blackest night we’d ever seen.
