Overview
About Me
I am a Commercial Pilot working in South and Central Africa. My home base is Johannesburg, South Africa where I grew up but when I'm not working I love to travel.
I lived in Mozambique for three and a half years flying tourists to exotic islands and game reserve destinations. I also spent a year in Tanzania flying to amazing bush locations in the Selous and Serengeti National parks and Zanzibar. I'm currently flying in Gabon between Congo and DRC for major oil companies.
My Dad and Stepmom often have couch surfers staying at their house in Johannesburg and I have met some very interesting people through this website.
I love scuba diving and hiking, I have a keen interest in photography. My Mother, Sister and Brother live in the UK and I try to visit them as often as possible.
I have travelled to 28 countries in Africa, Europe, North and South America and I hope to expand my horizons even further.
And I like to cook 😊
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I often travel alone and find hotels very impersonal. I love meeting new people and immersing myself in different cultures. I always eat the local food and drink the local beer, and locals always know the best spots to do this.
I have made friends all over the world but there's always room for more.
Plus I want people to come visit me in South Africa so they can see I don't actually ride an elephant to work or live in a mud hut with a lion as a pet.

Music, Movies, and Books
Music: Listen to mostly anything, not a fan of gospel or country but wont complain if it's someone else's choice.
Movies: Like anything with Tom Hanks or Kevin Spacey or Leo DiCaprio in it.
Books: I like adventure, crime/suspense, and historical autobiographies (especially with World 1/2 themes) and anything non-fiction.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Most recently I dived the Thistlegorm in the Red Sea, Egypt; which is a definite highlight.
Viewed the great wildebeest migration crossing the Mara River into the Serengeti from the air.
Proudest moment: getting my pilots licence before my drivers licence 😎
Teach, Learn, Share
Teach: No Africa is not a country, yes I'm white and I'm African, no I don't know John in Nairobi.
Learn: How to say hello in many languages. Scuba dive in as many dive sites around the world as possible.
Share: My favourite travel quote:
Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry and narrow-mindedness and many of our people need it sorely on these accounts; broad, wholesome, charitable views of men and things cannot be acquired by vegetating in one little corner of the earth all ones lifetime - Mark Twain
What I Can Share with Hosts
Insight into life in Africa, as I have lived and traveled to a few African countries.
Laughter and mediocre cooking skills.
I don't leave wet towels on the floor.
An open invite to come visit me in South Africa.
