About Me
Hello there 🙌
It's Tatul from Istanbul. I am an undergrad history student at the Boğaziçi University. I really love discovery and socializing, so I have been backpacking since I was 14. My favorite aspect of traveling is to witness novel human landscapes, historical heritage and the beauty of nature. I read a lot about history, anthropology and linguistics, I can talk about these endlessly.
My mother tongue is Western Armenian, I speak Turkish at a native level. I was educated in English and French. I am functional in Classical Armenian and Ottoman Turkish. I am currently learning Farsi.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I had my first CS experience at the age of 15 through a Facebook group (Turkish couch community is mostly on FB) I have always valued trust towards strangers as an important virtue, and it saved me when I was a clueless kid trying to navigate Turkey.
Interests
All sorts of humanities but mostly Middle Eastern history, genetical anthropology, historical linguistics (mostly Indo-European) and political philosophy.
I enjoy playing games and hanging out in my free time. I rank in the top 100 in TFT Turkish server.
Music, Movies, and Books
***I despise the notion of genre, thus my favorite content of all time is genre-breaking Cowboy Bebop.
I would consider myself a cinema enthusiast, I really like Miyazaki and The Castle in the Sky is my favorite movie of all time. I also rate Wes Anderson and Tomm Moore highly. Here is my letterbox profile, I sometimes write long reviews in Turkish:

My favorite novel is Eco's Baudolino; I do not like poetry much. Lately I have been thinking a lot about Graeber's The Dawn of Everything -I suggest you to read strongly. I've also read a lot of manga when I was young, a few I still follow on a weekly basis (One Piece for example)
I listen to all sorts of music: currently its mostly psy, dub, drum and bass, phonk, and European rap. My favorite artists are Gorillaz, Haggard, Tame Impala and fka twigs.
Teach, Learn, Share
I am above average in humanities, and especially in the history of Middle East, I am always more than happy to have long sessions of debate.
