About Me
CURRENT MISSION
Meeting new people, learn languages, crash on couches, accomodate.
ABOUT ME
I feel awkward saying nice things about myself (a stereotypical finnish quality), but here it goes.
My friends tell me I get along well with pretty much all the people I meet. I feel my life is enriched particulary by people who are different than me, in terms of culture/language, education, profession, hobbies, or interests/opinions.
At the moment I want to learn to speak some german (Ich will Deutsch lernen!). I'm also learning to play guitar and to speak french, and possibly spanish later when I have more time. I'm interested in any kind of language exchanges.
I always enjoy eating the food I'm given or I've made - my brother used to call me a biowaste bin when I was younger. I also enjoy cooking, although nowadays I'm too busy to cook regularly. I can make awesome finnish cinnamon buns!
I'm sort of addicted to doing exercise one form or another, and it helps to stabilize my everyday life, and physical exhaustion always lifts my mood. I enjoy playing sports in general (soccer/ultimate frisbee/volleyball/bouldering/martial arts/...).
I'm doing my PhD in materials physics in Finland, in a big research institute called VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland. I have two more years to go.
Interests
Like I mentioned above, I'm into exchange of culture and language.
On top of that, I'm interested in anything related to science, with the top three being physics, math and computer sciences.
I'm also interested in watching/doing sports, such as football, floorball, brazilian jiujitsu/submission wrestling, thaiboxing/kickboxing.
Music, Movies, and Books
See my last.fm profile for music, www.last.fm/user/tatow-
Many movies by the Coen brothers, Tarantino, and Woody Allen are great.
I listen to a lot of podcasts related to science, and also short stories. I listen to one to two audiobooks a year.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I did a 6-month exchange study in Montreal during the winter of 2015-2016, where I met a lot of great people, and decide Montreal is an awesome city.
Also the summer of 2012 in CERN (the particle collider complex in Switzerland/CERN). There I realized that it's pretty cool to hang out with people (also) from countries other than Finland!
Teach, Learn, Share
I'm happy to help anybody learn finnish or english (english is definitely a secondary language for me, but it is pretty strong for me). I'm interested in learning mostly french, german, and spanish at the moment, but I'm intersted in learning words/phrases of any language. And naturally I'm eager learn/teach/talk about physics and math and computer sciency stuff.
