About Me

I'm a musician, homebrewer and intersocial advocate* in Akron, Ohio with a thirst for experiencing other cities and cultures, even though Akron is diverse. Writing, bicycling, driving, hiking, and reading are passions, along with science: I love native plants and the chemistry inherent in the natural wild world.

*I coined intersocial advocate to mean someone who connects people to other people (but we all do that, don't we).

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I want to travel but I have little monetary resources. I occasionally drive to different places are the northeastern United States picking up musical purchases in my vision to create a studio in my hometown.

Music, Movies, and Books

Douglas Adams and Hitchhiker's Guide, all the works by Kurt Vonnegut, Joseph Heller and his novels of genius, Michael Pollen and his books about food history and dietary sense, The Plowman's Folly which is a book about how destructive plowing is to soil.

I love jazz and rock and any group or artist that challenges themselves to not use the Millennial Whoop device and write interesting melodies. Classical, blues, anything that shows off songwriting and arranging ability.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I kayaked on the ocean off of Catalina Island and almost died because I entered a cave with razor sharp sea-eroded rock with a tiny outlet. My friend and trainer for the day showed me how to back paddle during the swell, and then exit as the water receded. I got a huge swell when it was my turn that almost sent my head into the ceiling, but it finally gave way and I exited, surviving with only a gashed thumb.

What I Can Share with Hosts

Beer brewing knowledge, shared loves of science, music, books, love of nature. I am handy in the electronic sense, and have a decent track record of fixing devices. For hosts with recording studios, I can provide vocals, backing vocals, bass, saxophone, and to a lesser extent keys and guitar.
