About Me

Hey! I'm Taylor, and I'm from the mitten state.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

This summer I am road tripping throughout the United States, an adventure only made possible by hospitable strangers. I love connecting with locals in different cities and embracing new cultures. As a student taking a year off before applying to graduate school (I am applying for my PhD in Counseling Psychology) I would love to follow my wandering heart, but I have to be resourceful in seeking accommodations. I'm grateful that the CS community exists, and I am excited to become an active member in it.

Interests

Writing, blogging, photography, listening to people's life stories, running, reading, jamming out to obscenely loud music in my car, dancing (I totally can't dance and I do not care in the slightest), cooking, creating beautiful things, laughing, hiking, road tripping and traveling. I really enjoy public speaking but I prefer getting to know people one-on-one over groups. I am a very friendly, sociable person.

Music, Movies, and Books

I love all types of music, esp. singer/songwriter, indie, country, Christian. My favorite author is C.S. Lewis, I love many of his books including Mere Christianity and The Screwtape Letters. The Opposite of Loneliness by Marina Keegan. Eat, Pray, Love by Elizabeth Gilbert. I currently have a 25 book goal for this year and am open to book recommendations. I also LOVE podcasts, NPR Radio hour and TED Talks.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I've ran the Detroit International Marathon that crosses the Ambassador Bridge at sunrise into Canada then crosses back into the US through a mile-long tunnel underneath the Detroit River. To mentally tough out the distance I dedicated each mile to a different person in my life and ran in their honor. The last mile was for me.

Teach, Learn, Share

I created a blog called stayinspired.us, where I discuss general wellness and share my perspective on life. I'm really good at personality typing. After a few minutes of conversation I usually get an idea of someone's Myers-Briggs type. I can teach you how to do the same as well as communicate with difficult people effectively. I know a lot about holistic medicine and optimal wellness ranging from nutrition, herbs, yoga, reiki, acupuncture, meditation and visualization to journaling and the mind-body connection.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I'm adaptable and can have fun doing pretty much anything. I'm an open book. I love answering people's questions and I also love asking tough questions. I admire people that can handle intimate, vulnerable conversations. I am super sociable, a great listener, low-maintenance, and easy to connect with. I love figuring out what people are passionate about. I am a very organized, tidy person. I am respectful of other's feelings and property, and I will leave your home the way I found it!

Honestly, I try to share my heart with people. I encourage others to just be themselves when they're around me. I am nonjudgmental, open-minded, and I'm real with people.
