Overview
About Me
I'm a graduate student between London and Singapore. Was a food journalist, and I still pretend I'm just professionally curious when spending too much on good food and produce. I've since switched to doing a PhD in English literature. It just might solve social inequality and cure cancer.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I can't offer a couch but I can hang out and bring you around! I work pretty flexible hours. I love meeting locals wherever I go, great coffee and food at all price points mandatory, touristy attractions optional.
Interests
Literature, films, food, coffee, theatre, singing. Food. FOOD.
A Russian tourist in Singapore once asked me for directions after midnight. I walked him to his destination and force-fed him our famous chicken rice. He didn't seem hungry. I asked thrice just to be sure. He was hungry the third time round.

Music, Movies, and Books
Books: Eileen Chang, Hemingway, Woolf, Edith Wharton, Michael Cunningham, David Brin, Raymond E. Feist, Ursula le Guin, Maxine Hong Kingston, Douglas Adams
Music: Mariah Carey, electronic music with questionable labels like "tropical house."
Films: Love sci-fi, mysteries, psychological thrillers, musicals.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Making friends with the straight Nepalese manager of a gay bar in Hong Kong, joining him and his friends for a crazy night out. Involved fantastic Indian food for supper in a dingy eatery, then a sleazy bar with chipped shot glasses, where a wonderful woman belts Mariah on a stage.
Teach, Learn, Share
I was a two-bit food writer so I do know some nice places to dine at in Singapore, if you trust me!
