About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Adventure!

ABOUT ME

I'm an almost-uni-graduate who loves to spend most of my time sailing tall ships with some pretty awesome kids. Last year I was on exchange in Edinburgh, aka the most beautiful city I've ever seen and loved every minute of it! My parents are Canadian diplomats, so I grew up traveling. I like to think it gave me an open mind, but that's not for me to decide. I love cats, boats, old-timey music, good food, and surly teenagers.

I have a mild obsession with canoes and haven't yet found a dilemma they can't solve. This is topped only by a penchant for folk/bluegrass music and old men with banjos. I have the best summer job in the world, which is sailing a brigantine (pirate ship!), a live-aboard summer program for teens. Never a dull moment!

I love adventuring, the crazier the better. No plan is too far-fetched and I try to make even my most absurd ideas a reality. Enthusiasm is a plague worth spreading.

PHILOSOPHY

Do everything! Never pass up an opportunity. Treat others as you would wish to be treated. Do good in the world for goodness' sake!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I love the idea that anyone can go anywhere if they're determined enough. I feel that it's at best a pleasure and at worst a minor inconvenience to lend a hand (or a couch!) to travelers, but such a simple favour means more people can see the world.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I've hosted friends, friends-of-friends, and total strangers met on the bus on my couch/kitchen floor/room. I'm also totally game for giving people the local low-down and a home-cooked meal in whatever city I'm living in! I've been lucky enough to always find a place to stay while travelling, and like to return the favour.

Music, Movies, and Books

Folk music and sea shanties, orchestra, classic rock, indie, ska, and musicals.
A few favourite movies are Pirates of the Caribbean, the Road to El Dorado, Hot Fuzz, and Moulin Rouge. I also love Doctor Who and Buffy the Vampire Slayer, a lot. And Xena.
I'm a giant bookworm, though I don't have much time to read non-uni things at the moment. The Windsinger, the Golden Compass, Harry Potter, and anything by Joseph Conrad or Garth Nix are amazing.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Summer months sailing tall ships, hands down the best way to live.

Teach, Learn, Share

Well... I could share miscellaneous nautical skills. And cooking, good music, good books... ooh! I can teach you how to knit, or crochet, or climb a tree?!

Countries I’ve Visited

Austria, Denmark, France, Italy, Morocco, Nepal, Netherlands, Pakistan, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Thailand, United Kingdom, United States
